Question about Paladins.Follow

#1 May 12 2010 at 5:26 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all!

I am returning to the game after quite a long break and I am considering rolling a Paladin class. The last time I played a Paladin as a main Blessing of Kings was the end tier talent so needless to say the class is completely different now.

My main question is this, are DPS Paladins (Ret Spec obviously) viable for groups these days? Or are you still pigeonholed into tanking or healing. I am not really interested in playing a Healer or a Tank, been there done that in the past. More or less I was curious as to how hard it is to gear up as a Ret Paladin, if there were issues getting groups as DPS and what not.

Thanks in advance for your help!

DPS paladins are still very viable. You'll get random groups faster as a tank or healer though, just because those roles are rarer.

Ret is nothing like what it was in Vanilla or even Burning Crusade for that matter. It is a very viable dps spec that brings utility to raids without a huge tax on general dps output. Gearing up is similar to that of a dps Warrior and no longer requires a mish mash of melee and spell stats. Just before Wrath of the Lich King the spec underwent an overhaul that solved it's threat and mana regeneration issues and has since prospered without too many hits from the nerf bat.

Pretty much any DPS tree is now viable. Demo locks, frost mages, arms warriors, boomkins. You can try whatever you want with no fear^^

Subtlety rogues everywhere wish this were so; last I heard they're still behind equivalently geared Mut or Combat by a good margin.

Same with Frost Mages. Viable? I guess. But far from optimal.

But for OP, Ret is as good DPS in dungeons as any other DPS class.

Just press "I", select your role to be DAMAGE, enter queue, enjoy. Tanks and healers have short queue waits, DPS have long waits.

I don't kow how ret's DPS anymore, I think you pick seal of vengeance and spam judgement, consecrate, whirlwind and crusader strike with exorcisms each time art of war is active.
