Total nooob question re: Emblem de TriumphFollow

So, my disc healing pve priest just dinged 80 and I'm wondering about Triumph Emblem gear. With my DK I bought most of my gear from the vendor in Dalaran before I realized there was another emblem vendor in the ToC area. With him I'm still not sure if I got the right combo of gear. So with my priest I'd rather get the best gear right off the bat. So, am I better off getting gear from the vendor in Dal, or the one in ToC? Also, I don't have cold weather flight on my priest yet, so that's part of why I don't just compare the gear. But part of it is because I'm pretty dumb about how important the gear set bonuses are.

Thanks!

Jeff

As a general rule of thumb, I'd get both 245 rings, the intellect trinket and the wand off the EoT vendor in Dalaran, then look into tier gear. Truth is by the time you've picked all those up, which should take you about 150 or so EoT your gear will be mostly epic already so you can take it from there.

Once you start looking into tier gear, you should take into account which pieces you can pick at VoA up before buying them with EoF or EoT. Hint : Helm doesn't drop off VoA. Koralon drops chest and shoulders, Toravon drops pants and hands.

Good luck gearing your priest. I so wish I could start with mine, but he's still only 42 XD

In general, You are trying to improve the ilevel of each of your gear slots, given similar stats. In your interface options, under display, check "Show item level". Different badge vendors may have pieces for different slots. One vendor may have a cloak, and another may have gloves.

You can trade emblems down to a lower type emblem, but don't ever do that unless you have already gotten all the gear you can from the higher emblem type. Doing a random heroic per day will give you two Emblems of Frost (the best level gear), and a lot of the Triumph. Also look at the other Emblem vendors once you have your Triumph gear, in case you want to trade some triumph emblems down.

Stats we disc care about are Intellect, Spell Power, MP5, Spirit, Crit, Haste, and Stamina. Focus on gear that improves these stats. Look toward your trinkets, gems and enchants to improve your Mana, mana regen, and spellpower.

Good luck, you are on your way. Here are a couple other resources I find handy in improving stats:

I think all voa bosses drop hands and legs from there tier koralion should drop t9 hands/legs on 10 man and 9.5 on 25

I was just reading through this earlier. It might be helpful.

It's a fairly good list. It's missing this trinket which is awesome for AoE heals, but otherwise okay I think.

Personally I avoid gear with Spirit for my Disc priest. Also 2T9 isn't that great for Disc and by the time I was thinking about 4T9, which is decent, I was getting ready to move into T10 which is awesome.

Focus on Int when you start gearing up. Both for stats on gear and gems, as in use +20 Int gems.

Yeah, I avoid both Spirit and Haste when I can. I'm almost at the haste softcap with Borrowed Time up while giving it a priority very close to zero.

I personally love the 2PcT9 bonus as Disc. Prayer of Mending is one of my most used heals - half the time it has higher priority than Penance for me - and I think it really just depends on healing style, which is still variable within a spec. I really prefer Disc to Holy for most raid healing, too, and I think I'm doing a decent job in raid healing as Disc.

In heroics, Prayer of Mending is often over 40% of my healing done (not counting absorbs), so I definitely think it's worth it if you play like I do, if only for heroics.

I'm not even sure if I want to replace one of my two last pieces of T9 with T10.0 yet, since the 2PcT10 bonus is really not all that great for the way I heal.

Edit: Also, 4PcT9 is horrible for Disc imo.

/agree about Spirit, it is not a stat to chase at all for disc. You get much better return from Int between Replenishment and Rapture. Plus it helps your crit a bit.

I am pretty sure the only items that you need to go to the vendors in the Tourney area are the 245 versions of the tier gear, the rest of the stuff can be found in Dal from the Triumph vendor or the cloth merchant (for the tier gear).

2pc bonus is great for MT healing on 2-tank fights and constant aoe damage fights, pretty meh for heroics. I never really liked the 4pc bonus as disc, it was hard to measure just how good it was and I was disappointed when I found out it was only 10% of the DA itself. Instead of DA's for 40% of the crit, it was only 33%.

+20 Int gems? =O omg omg omg... if you are running out of mana, maybe. I wouldn't put anything in that didn't include SP, myself. Disc lacks the talents that boost SP like the other specs, and benefits from good regen. If you are running low on mana at this point, it is time to develop good habits with Shadowfiend and Hymn of Hope. (As in use them before you are in the middle of spamming heals; there are not too many fights that will not give you opportunity to use them. The first fight in ToC was a great measuring stick for your regen needs.)

Don't get me wrong, when I started gearing up I did not really use my imp and HoH as much as I should. I adjusted my gear based on what my present needs were. If I had the opportunity to do it now, I would get the t-9 and heal a bit without it gemmed to get a feel for what it was lacking.

You can get all the tier gear from vendors in Dalaran, afaik; you just have to go see the "armor" vendor for your specific armor type. The same person you would have had to find to turn in T7/8 tokens.
