Feral DPS QuestionFollow

#1 Mar 29 2010 at 10:58 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering if my numbers are average / below average / above average for what my gear is
my armory
I pull around 6k+ in 25man single target boss and around 5.5k in 10man single targets.
AoE is never a problem and am normally at the top of the dps list according to recount on current targets.
I know the priority list of SR rip rake TF and Berserk.
Any advice on how to bring the numbers up or am I at the top of what I could be doing?
Thanks for any assistance you can afford me.

Which addons do you use to track your DoTs?
What kind of % uptime do you have on them (the DoTs)?
How is your UI configured?
Clicker or Keybinds?

*shrugs* I mean 5.5k seems pretty typical to me, but my guild doesn't typically run with a kitty... :S

I use bad kitty to track the bleeds and self buffs. My UI is the sock WoW UI.
I have no clue about the % up-time. A guess would be around 80% if not more. There is only a short time span that something drops before it is reapplied.
Is there an add-on to track that? I haven't seen one on curse.com.
I use both hot-keys and mouse clicks since there is about 100 different things that I need to use throughout a raid.
Thanks for a way to update more information someproteinguy, but I am looking for a response from a feral druid that is currently playing with around the same gear and raiding the same areas (specifically ICC- My dps in Nax, Uld, Ony etc are way higher due to lower equipment requirements).

I do similar dps, but with food buffs etc I only manage 720 arp and my gear isnt as high as yours.
I can say though that recount will give you dot uptime and downtime as well as shred rip rak tr counts per fight. I am currently doing on averge 5400 to 5600 on festergut, I havent done some of the higher bosses, and thats icc 10 so if you armory me its Satrn-Ysera.

Id have to look at a wws or recount tally to see if it is something obvious but it's probably going to be something less than obvious.

Which single target fight(s) are you quoting the numbers from?

Marrowgar for example is a single target fight but your DOTs and Savage Roar have a chance to fall off for a period of time due to bone storm and bone spikes. Inevitably your DPS will be lower than normal.

Saurfang on the other hand is tank and spank for melee and you can just stand behind practising/refining your "rotation"/prioritisation.

BadKitty is nice for tracking your stuff. Me personally, I use NeedToKnow because it can be configured for any class and it isn't quite so intrusive on my screen. Everything else sounds spot on, though. Unfortunately at this time your armory has you in restoration gear but after a look over of your spec it looks ok. There are a few things I'd change though, presuming your Feral Combat spec as seen on armory is in fact a purely dps spec and not a tank hybrid spec. If it is a purely dps spec, I'd recommend the following:

1. Lose Survival Instincts. It does nothing for your DPS and if you do tend to tank in 5-mans it's unnecessary. Nice in PVP though if that is part of your intention.

2. Lose Improved Mangle. Since the latest patch that increased Mangle duration to 60 seconds I have found this talent offers nothing to a pure DPS kitty. The only time I find it helpful now is when in bear form and in PVP, but even then the slightly increased cooldown time of Mangle for bear isn't very noticeable.

3. Add 3 points into Infected Wounds. It's actually pretty nice.

4. Add that last point into Improved Mark/Gift. A total must-have.

Just my two cents :)

If you want anyone to be able to seriously look at your performance, link a log on WoL.
It gives endlessly more information about your performance than an armory.

WoL files will give you your % up time for your DoTs as well. Smiley: wink

I checked the armory and you are in healing gear so no real help there. I have 4pcT10 and a GS of 5850 or so. On Saurfang on a good day I will easily crack 9k. On a bad day it can drop to just under 8k.

This varies greatly by my latency, luck with crits & procs, raid buffs, how awake and on the ball I am and which brand of beer I am drinking. Without 4pcT10 subtract 7-900DPS off the above figures (according to Rawr). Our other feral does slightly better than me at the same gear level (always has) especially on fights with target switching and much chaos. I like to think he must have better latency, but I must admit my reflexes are probably slowing a little at 37 :)

Is that 10 or 25 man?
Because for 25 man it looks quite low to me, I remember most melee breaking 10k in the first weeks of ICC for us.

Edit: that said, the dps the rest of your guild is doing makes such an immense difference.

That is up with what we see us and the rogues doing. Occaisionally one of us gets lucky and we see 10k. We are all Aussies though and the luckiest live with a 250ms connection whilemost of us are on 350-500ms. I've never been able to quantify how much of a difference that makes, but i'm pretty sure it is significant (even on stuff like moving out of the fire).

Of course i'm more than happy to admit that I am not the best player out there. It may just be me being a bun :)

Yeah, that's a lot more than the 50-150 I usually run with, and that costs you hundreds of dps, do that around the board and the fight takes longer which again picks off hundreds of dps for everyone.

@Rarebeast - I tend to log off in healing set normally since I run resto to get daily heroic / heroics in a lot faster than sitting around 15-20 min as feral only.
@Aethien - rogues on solo dps fights always rock me.
I have made some changes to my over all talent build and have booked up in the charts. I ended ICC 25 man last night with an overall dps of around 8.1k
Fights like Saurfang, Fester, Bloodqueen I tend to be up on the high end of the recount but then again when I have to run around like on Princes, Rotgut etc casters and the lack of a need to run around rock me on dps.
So I hope now that my guild has been able to drop more of the bosses frequently that drop the tokens for the upgraded T10 my dps should rise when I get more Sanctified armor. Yay.
Lol, thanks again for every ones input and keep the suggestions rolling!
