Numbers to aim for as a Tree healerFollow

So I'm one bar from dinging 80 and I am still unsure of what the stat numbers to aim for are. I don't plan on doing much raiding, not enough time, but I'd like to be able to do it if my guild is doing a run and they need a healer and I'm on at the time (planned raids won't work, two kids under three, so I can't commit to them, but that doesn't mean one won't be in progress when I sign on some days).

I've gotten several nods regarding my healing ability, which is nice, and with a good group, the lvl 80 instances (UP and HoL are all I have experience with for those...but I've done just about everything else) are a breeze for me to heal, sometimes only ever using Rejuv and Lifebloom, with the occasional WG to patch up the melee and a LB whenever I get a Clearcasting proc for the free mana....one tank even commented on my mana hardly ever falling below 10k (Mage, Paladin and Priest buffs that run though so....huge mana pool and healing increase)

Anyway, what are the numbers to aim for? will they differ depending on tank or raid healing? is there a middle road?

What are the caps/ minimum recommended for MP5, Spell Power, Haste, Intellect/ mana pool, Spirit?

What should I be gemming/ enchanting for? Intellect? Spell Power? Haste? Spirit? Mp5?

Armory Link

Also this is the spec I plan to go with once I hit 80:

http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?druid#QBlPEsCqOjQF,,10958

Where should I put the remaining 4 points?

I'm torn between Living Seed, Revitalize, Improved Tranquility and Natural Perfection...

Are there talents I have that shouldn't be taken ebcause I'll get more use out of others?

Like I said I plan on doing mostly Heroics and possibly 10 man stuff, not many 25 mans... least I don't think so.

Are there good leather sets to buy from the AH? I have a lot of cloth right now and would like to upgrade ASAP, but that's not a real priority as I know once I start doing Heroics I'll be raking in the badges to get my Tier 9 stuff.

Sorry for all the questions and if these are posted somewhere else....if it is direct me there and I'll be glad to go look at it.

I'll look for a gear list or something of that sort. Thanks in advance.

First step will be to get the 4t9 bonus, you'll love those RJ crits.

Then there's the idols, you'll want both Awakening and Flaring Growth. Some variety of trinkets would be great too, ideally ending up with two good mana-regen trinkets and two good +spellpower ones. Purified Lunar Dust (frost badges) and Ephemeral Snowflake (H-HoR) make a strong starting set of trinkets. After that gear becomes a mix and match, depending on luck with drops and what not. There's nothing wrong with the pieces on the AH if you have the gold lying around, but you should be able to assemble a set without shopping there.

Stat-wise, about 3,000 Spellpower + Haste will be good enough to do ICC-10, and make anything less then that trivial. You'll also want enough mana to last through about 10 minutes of fighting. How much regen that is number-wise will depend on your raid group.

Tank healing and raid healing generally gear the same, but you'll be putting talent points in different places. Tank-healing will look more like this, Raid healing more like this, with the 3 points in Celestial Focus (balance tree) a popular choice for a 25 man raiding build. There's more on the pros and cons of different talent points in our sticky, and there's a pretty big degree in flexibility with them, depending on your role in the group and whatnot.

Pushing your haste up is the conventional gearing goal in the beginning. Spec'd the way you are now you'll soft-cap at 856 haste. Haste and Spellpower are approximately equivalent for increasing your output, and honestly you can gem either. Reaching the haste soft-cap is much more critical in 25-man raids then for 10 mans. Spellpower, spellpower/haste, and spellpower/spirit are the typical combos of choice for gemming.

Once you get geared you should be able to have enough mana regen from your meta gem, the awakening idol and trinkets. However while gearing you may need to focus on pieces with spirit, or (in a worst case scenario) gem Mp5/spirit to give you enough mana to last through a raid encounter. However, once you get a few pieces of gear, you'll probably find yourself with way too much mana, and eyeballing some boomkin pieces.

EJ clicky

Me clicky (causal raider, 10-man build).

Does the Snowflake proc on spellcast or spell ticks like Rejuv?

What about stat minimums for Heroics? How would I gauge if I'm ready to start healing heroics? Or is it a try it and find out if I fail type thing?

Thanks for the info Proteinguy, it helps.

The snowflake procs off of periodic heals. It apparently has a short internal CD, but will return a heap of mana when you get HoTs rolling on everyone.

Since you've managed to heal most of the level 80 instances on regular mode you should be ready to try heriocs as a next step. You can always start out with H UK, or something else easy to get your feet wet.

However if you don't have some guildies to run with, the random thing could be a bit of a pain. I mean, some people will want to run with heavily over-geared healers, and you may have to put up with the gear-based insults and stuff from time to time. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to do heriocs with a proper group though.

Well I haven't hit 80 yet, and have only healed UP and HoL for the level 80 dungeon experience. I guess I'll just take it as it comes and move to Heroics when I have healed ALL of the normal dungeons succesfully and comfortably.

Thanks for the advice, I've settled on a good 5-10 man talent build for what I believe will work great for my purposes and will probably work on getting spellpower to a decent number and then work on haste. Or should I work on haste first?

Short answer:

In 5s and 10s it doesn't matter so much.

Long answer:

Each spell's healing power scales differently in respect to haste, spellpower, and critical.

You can download the Treecalcs spreadsheet, the link is on the bottom of the first post here. Input your stats and gear, and it will give you an idea how much the next additional point of haste, spellpower and critical will affect the different spells. Next look at your recount/WoL numbers and get an idea which spells you use most, and which stat that spell(s) is affected by most. Stack that stat.

If you are really ambitious you can do some serious number-crunching here, taking into account different encounters, spell mixes, etc. (isn't math fun Smiley: nod).

My opinion:

I'll tend to focus more on spellpower, because things like haste gems and enchants will have to be re-done if I get pushed over the soft-cap by a new piece of gear.

Items with both haste and spellpower make me all happy inside.

Thanks again for the advice, looks like I'll be gemming and enchanting for Spellpower and/ or Spirit or Intellect based on my mana needs at the time and gearing to maximize spellpower, haste and mana regen. All while running reg's til I am comfortable with everything and then grinding away at Heroics and jumping in on the occasional 10 man.

The Snowflake trinket is godly for mp5 issues. I see it has an eternal cooldown, though I'm wondering if that is really the case. During a regular heroic run (Old Kingdom), I checked my Recount add-on for fight statistics and it showed (as Replenished) to have returned just as much mana as the Replenishment effect we were running with (<3 Ret Paladins). About 6k mana returned through that trinket and 6k through Replenishment.

I've tried tossing a Wild Growth on a full team (+ pet, I have it glyphed) and it seemed to return 11 mana on each hit, each time (second), in other words, no internal cooldown. You'll also notice that the animation is up pretty much constantly if you roll HoTs on people. I'll have to do some more calculation on it once I am actually able to log in, but it's definitely a good (and relatively easy to get) mp5 trinket.

Wild Growth costs 800 mana (give or take) and it returns 11 mana every person it hits and it ticks for 7 seconds, hitting every second. Let's say you've got it glyphed and hit 6 people (full group plus pet). That's 66 mana every second for 7 seconds, giving you a total of 462 mana back, meaning Wild Growth effectively only costs 300-ish mana. A low-cost and long duration heal like Rejuvenation (with the Awakening glyph) might even return more mana than it costs.

It's pretty crazy.

I've got a question about spell power values, though. Currently, self-buffed, I'm at around 2600 healing power in Tree of Life form and all that jazz. I'm 5p T9 (I know, I know, get the helm?) and I've got a GS of barely 4900, if I remember correctly. 3000 spell power seems like a lot, if you're not counting in Tree of Life and such. I barely see that on anyone these days, even the 6k GS healers I've come across, so I'm assuming the 3000 spell power is actually 3000 healing power while buffed and in Tree of Life form.

It should be worth noting that you can start ICC10 with less, as long as you don't plan on doing a full run. I healed at least the first boss with less gear than I'm wearing now. And heroics barely need anything these days. I'm /facerolling them with ease in my current gear.

As for haste, is it primarily used to lower the global cooldown, or do people pick up the Rapid Rejuvenation glyph these days? I ran with that glyph for some time, but the lowered duration of Rejuvenation messed up my rotations, so I decided to do away with it. And it's been a while since I saw people recommending Celestial Focus. You need to dump a lot of points into Balance to get that haste bonus and with Nature's Grace already bumping me over the soft cap, I'm wondering if those points aren't better spent on mana efficiency in the Resto tree, through Revitalize or one of the mana cost reduction talents (forgot their names).

Finally, my gear. I know, the cloak needs some work. I'm gathering honor to buy the PvP one (cheapest and fastest upgrade available) until I can afford the Frost Emblems. Right now I want to get Lunar Dust first, though.

To clarify: the 3,000 number I threw out there was for spellpower + haste. So like 2,500 spellpower and 500 haste should be fine for starting ICC-10.

Ya I wonder too. EJ has it listed with something like a 0.25 second CD, but that it is "unconfirmed." From what I can tell from reading there it'll proc every 0.25 seconds as long as your WG is ticking on enough people (4+). With constant spamming of the raid the numbers on EJ put it at about 220mp5 (4 procs/sec * 11 mana * 5 seconds). Either way it's nuts...

Mazra wrote:

It seems to be one of the more popular 5s/10s glyphs, but I can't say I'm a huge fan either. When I put a HoT there, I want it to stay there dammit. Smiley: mad But ya I didn't like the way it messed with my rotation. There was less overwriting of my HoTs by direct healing with it; but I got a Disco priest who likes to bubble everyone at low health. That's usually enough to keep people safe while the HoT ticks.

Mazra wrote:

Ya it's back, or at least for 25s. Since so much of the 25s healing is from RJ/WG the points in places like living seed and empowered touch become fairly worthless. From my numbers, if I was to take the CF points my Nourish would drop from about 7,500 HPET to about 5,500 (slightly less on chain casts). In return I'd get an extra 3% to my RJ and WG, with a little added back into Nourish. Now if I'm not using Nourish or Regrowth much at all, sure CF is worth it to get a 3% boost to RJ & WG.

For 10 mans, though, that's a big loss to Nourish that not everyone is comfortable taking. I imagine if you have the RR glyph and rarely tank heal it can be a worthwhile, especially in a 3-healer setup. For whatever reason I find myself 2-healing enough fights that losing over 25% off of my Nourish spell is a nasty hit to take. That OT is usually less geared anyway, and I wouldn't want to try and heal him/her with such a big hit to my primary tank-healing spell. So I'm spec'd out of it, despite the fact I'm gimping my output slightly.

I dunno, I went for all the sexy haste on the boomkin t9 chest myself. But I have no idea if that was a good idea. I just went "ooo haste!" and grabbed it. Smiley: lol

Dinged 80 last night and now have my talents set up like I want them for now, I favored the talents that would benefit me and my playstyle most in 5 man content because I dont' know how often, if ever, I will be doing raids, if that changes I will adjust my talents accordingly.

Anyway, have a look if you want and let me know if this is good enough to start doing Heroics (doubtful). Thanks again.

I only recently switch to the Rapid Rejuv glyph and will never go back. I can now heal most heroics easily (not the new ones) with just rejuv. Even on the tank. It does muck up your rotation a bit, but it is easy enough to get used to one less rejuv between WG's.

You can't raid heal quite as many people at once, but your throughput on each person is significantly better.

Other than lowering the global cooldown, I'm having a hard time seeing the effective use of haste on my Druid. Especially since so many spells are instant casts or 1.5-second casts. My Shaman collects haste like crazy, but that's because Chain Heal is on a 2-second cast timer, if I remember correctly. With enough haste, mana and mp5, you can spam Chain Heal for sexy HPS.

My Druid, on the other hand, with the high mp5 and overall mana efficiency, seems more focused on spell power. Currently I can roll Rejuvs and WG on a 10-raid for something like 5 minutes before having to use Innervate and a mana pot. Of course, lacking the additional haste makes tank healing a *****, since Regrowth and Nourish seem to take forever (until either crits and procs Nature's Grace).

Started gearing up my Druid through Trial of the Champion, Forge of Souls and Pit of Saron and it went really well, got new sexy belt, shoulders, staff and chest, replaced my Glyph of Regrowth with the Rapid Rejuv and noticed a big difference in my HPS and my mana consumption, which actually went down. I went from having to quick stack LB to 2 or 3, Rejuv and WG to slow stacking LB and using only Rejuv with a WG here and there to top off AoE damage. I rarely use Swiftmend, I don't really know why but I never seem to need it, I'm just good at guessing when damage is incoming and set up LB really well I guess <shrug> oh and Nourish is super sexy...love Living Seed.

My Spirit is about 475, Spell Power is about 1800 and my haste is at 8% (368 rating or something)....I don't really watch my numbers that carefully yet since I haven't had any issues healing anything so far...except a DK in PoS yesterday that tried tanking in DPS gear.....we wiped and then party disbanded, was late and didn't want to wait forever for another tank.

Anyway, I'll keep chugging away until I can start really pounding away at the Heroics...which will be once I can actuallyque up for the "new" Heroic 5 mans, which say I can't now because I need better gear.

There are other uses?!! Smiley: eek

Naw seriously though, it's an odd stat. Sometimes it seems it's hard to appreciate it unless you are blanket healing 25s. I mean keeping RJ on like 15 people instead of 11 because of haste in an aura-like fight; that's sweet. In 10s it really frees up time in the rotation to do other things; of course most of those other things have a lower HPET then RJ. So sometimes it seems to be giving me more time to do less efficient healing. Smiley: lol

That spell really needs a warning label: For Emergency Use Only. Any other use prohibited by law, and punishable by a fine of up to 100g. Smiley: tongue

Last night I won the Battered Hilt that dropped in heroic Forge of Souls. Woot! I have now started the quest line and hope to complete it this weekend. My question is, should I use the resulting weapon for my 2-handed feral hammer, or should I take the 1-handed caster hammer and try and find an off-hand resto caster item?

I currently have ilvl 219 staves for both specs. I don't raid, but I can do pvp for a pvp staff if necessary.

I am hesitant to take the 1-handed caster hammer since it doesn't have spirit on it, but overall it would be an upgrade. I am the primary healer for our guild instance runs so I would like to be able to use the item the guild helps me get...for the guild!

The feral 2-handed hammer would be a very nice upgrade for my dps set, but I don't run as dps when I'm with guildies.

My first thought is to take the feral 2-handed hammer reward and find a pvp resto staff. I need to see if that's even a possibility, though. Thoughts?

Dosgamer, do yourself and everyone else a favor and sell the hilt instead. It's worth around 8-10k gold on my server. The weapon you get out of it is good, but not worth 10k gold. Get the dagger from Garfrost in Pit of Saron heroic. It's pretty good and should last you into some of the heavier raids where you can get weapons equal to the Battered Hilt reward.

Alas, Mazra, I won't ever be in a raid in the foreseeable future, and (probably more importantly) I have already started the quest line hehe. I'm very much a quest hound, so these lines of quests are a lot of fun for me.

At this point I'm leaning towards getting a pvp resto staff and using the hilt for my feral 2-handed hammer.

If you never run as Feral the feral weapon would be a waste. The 1 Hand Healer weapon, even though it doesn't have spirit, is still awesome, just make sure the off-hand you use has spirit on it.

Also, Spirit is a great resto druid stat, but it's not so great that we gem for it because spell power is better and straight MP5 is better, so... go with the 1 Hand weapon for your healer you'll get much more use out of it.

I actually run pug heroics (for emblems) as feral. The only time I am resto is when we're doing guild instance runs, and we only do those a few times a week. My feral set definitely sees more action than my resto set (which is why I am almost always logged out in my feral set).

I suspect my guild will help me with the instance runs to get the weapon, though, and hence I would like the result to be something that benefits the guild. I guess the 1-handed hammer is a good enough upgrade in and of itself. I just need to find a good offhand item with spirit (like you advised). I'll find another staff for my feral set.

On another note, can you do the battered hilt quest more than once? *ducks and runs*

I don't see why not....I guess just wait and see if you can get your hands on another hilt and then try starting the quest. If it starts then yes you can, if you can't then no. <shrug>

BTW, been pounding through Heroics like crazy since I started this thread (figured I'd try them out and see how I did) and finally got my 4T9 bonus last night. Been a nice ride, now I don't really know what to aim for, been trying to change my secondary spec to feral but don't want to til I get a respectable DPS set. Anyway just an FYI and bragging. Thanks for the help so far.

Congrats on the 4T9 set! I will complete my resto set this weekend, if not tonight.

I was a dufus and didn't know there was a specific leather emblem vendor when I was purchasing my feral pieces, so I just bought the ilvl 245 feral pieces. /facepalm

They seem to work well enough for my non-raiding purposes, but it would be nice to have set bonuses (even if sacrificing some of the stats on the 245 stuff to get 232 stuff). Ah well. I can't really complain, the system lets me in to heroic halls of reflection, and I've completed it twice now so I figure I'm not gimping the group too badly hehe.

Enjoy the hot crits!
