Sub-frostFollow

So today I noticed our top dps (Goosedog) changed his sub-spec from blood to frost. Turns out EJ has this big article how if you're in t10 and have a weapon with a proc (eg. Shadowmourne) it's better for dps. Goose thought that the dps between it and sub blood + reaping was about the same anyway, and since this spec turns out better with best in slot, he thought he'd go ahead and switch. Call me a lemming but I switched and am going to try it out. Has anyone else switched their sub-spec to frost?

Since I get the pleasure of my dual spec being 2 dps, I have both sub frost w/o reaping and sub blood with reaping. I personally prefer the rotation for Frost sub because it has a little more room for error, though I feel like in tank n spank situations (or fights with very little movement in general) Blood sub w/ reaping pulls a little ahead. Though if I have an enhance shaman in my group, I always go sub Frost. 45% innate melee haste is sexy ;)

I have switched to sub-frost, and i'm in between. I don't think my gear is good enough honestly for it yet. I have 2t10 but it's 251 as is most of my other gear and I have Quel'dar might. But from what I read it said frost sub is better at once you have 2t10 so I rocked it.

It seems to help my dps on 10 man content not so much in 25. In my 10 man I have no shaman or feral druid and usually pull 7+ or so on saurfang with me making sure I chains one of the beasts. On the 25 I ran last night with an enhancement shaman I only pulled 7006. So either I played like **** (possible) or for me right now it doesn't translate well now also could have been a lack of a warrior. Before I switched with less gear I pulled 9.4 on him about 3 weeks ago. So I'm trying to figure out what my problem is right now.

Does Reaping increase my Howling Blast crits in anyway?

I'm actually tempted to try out frost on one of my DKs, just to see how it plays (now that I've seen the other two trees). The problem is I just feel so uncomfortable making a decent tree with it - the frost tree seems to be "that tree" for Death Knights. The one in which pretty much every talent seems a must, once you actually start spending points in it. Which has left me rather uncomfortable setting up a spec.

I might wait 'til Cata - removal of some of the bloat talents should give me room to do my own thing in the tree.

That always felt like Unholy to me. At least if you are a tank it is.

Frost is a little hard to construct, I guess, but not that much. Really, you just have to choose if you want Unbreakable Armor or a 3rd point in BCB, and decide if Chill of the Grave is better or worse than points in KM (which is determined by how often you find yourself wanting RP. Actually, it's pretty straight forward, at least in PvE.

Unholy, on the other hand... It's nothing BUT sacrifices. You could easily spend 60-61 points in the tree.

So, if you aren't using a sim to optimize your DpS, it is way more annoying to eyeball the DpS than Frost (though the latter has some randomness due to KM).

I dunno, I would rate the "difficulty" of designing specs as Blood>2-hand Frost>DW Frost>Unholy.

For tanking, it would be 2-hand Frost>Blood>DW Frost>Unholy.

The last two may be reversed with tanking--I can't decide.
