I'm a bit annoyed with my lock, which is also my most favorite, but only, character.
Started out as demo. Loved it. Leveled to 80 as it. Then meta came and I didn't care for it much. Was told destro was the best dps raid spec, so I re-spec'd and got the rotation down. Now I'm being told that destro spec is the worst dps raid spec and that demo and affliction are much better. Is that true?
I'm temped to give demo a try again, but forget the rotation and glyphs.
Affliction I've never tried, but it just doesn't look that interesting to me.

I do about 10.7k in a patchwerk style fight with the proper raid comp as Destruction and I still have a ways to go before I can say I've finished gearing. Affliction in the same setting I do just over 11k, could not be bothered to try demo.

Don't recall my demo dps, since it's been months since I went to destro, but with destro, I deal around 4-5k dps. This varies on buffs though. A pug ICC 10-man rep run the other night, I was around 6-7k.
Still feel my dps is too low. Most of all, when doing 4-5k dps. I'd think with 4 of the t10 set pieces, I'd deal a higher dps.

Not to be a ****, FreeTrial, but do you have any logs of that? I browse through a lot of logs, and I'm yet to see any Destro locks passing 9K on a non dps enhancing fight.
I just did a pug 25-man ICC and got up to around 7-9k dps. 9k on aoe mobs, but stayed about 7k, on single targets. Sadly, group sucked ad couldn't down the first boss.
Average ilvl gear is 249, if that matters. Just saying, I'm not in all ICC gear, yet.

The flavor of the patch raiding spec is just that: the flavor that rises to the top with the tweaks accompanying each new patch. At the start of WotLK, all three specs were viable for raiding. This shifted to more destro as the expansion continued, but now affliction or demo are the current favorites. Demo is more of a utility spec that gives a raid-wide buff due to Demonic Pact. In a 25-man with multiple locks, having one go demo with this talent boosts caster dps. Affliction has received some buffs and is now the current top dps performer according to the number crunchers.
That being said, is destro completely worthless for raids? No, but its overall effect will depend on your situation. If you are just pugging 10-man ICC, it probably won't matter. If you are doing 25-man HM ICC progression with your guild, then yeah, they will want and need you to maximize your utility/dps.
