Thinking about leveling a Warrior...Follow

I have a couple questions!

#1: How bad would it be to level Prot 1-80 with an emphasis on random dungeons? I only really want to level this Warrior to tank with, and was wondering how difficult it would be to sword and board effectively the whole way?

#2: If I'm going to be focusing on Prot, what's the ideal set of heirlooms I would get? I've got many badges and a couple stone keepers shards, so...yeah.

#3: I don't really know much about Warrior tanking at all. It's just something my guild could use and I think I would enjoy. Is there any newbie guide that just explains the basics? Going to EJ and reading there can be a tad overwhelming when you don't even know the basics, and a lot of the info there is really only good for endgame raiding (mainly bosses), and could be completely inaccurate on what's good for either leveling as prot or tanking lowbie dungeons, concerning spec and glyphs and rotation.

#4: Oh, any useful tips/macros/bits of advice that's gonna make things 100x easier when leveling this guy?

#5: The only thing I've heard about Warriors that I really do NOT like is that at high gear levels you get rage starved easily because you're avoidance/mitigation is so good...How big of a problem is this really? Do you seriously end up having to take off gear? -_-

#6: Concerning offspec: I may want to offspec a dps spec at 80. I haven't actually raided with any dps Warriors on my Hunter...Are most of them Arms or Fury? I'm mainly wondering about Arms, is it alright dps? I'd rather only have to take one dps weapon than ninja two from my 2h dps brethren...

#7: What's the favorite thing about your Warrior!

Thanks! <3 <3 <3

Do it.
1. I leveled 10-80 as prot, and it was pretty damn quick. At lower levels once you get shield block, your nigh unkillable against mobs, and revenge hits like a truck.
2. I never leveled with heirlooms, so I couldn't tell you. But I would imagine the plate ones with the two health giving trinkets.
3. As far as I can remember, I just kept Thunder clap on cool down, and used heroic strike to keep aggro. Then when you get devastate, use that. Alot. Shield slam is also a massive threat generator(I've had warnings from the OT in my guild about using Shield slam just after he taunts). Then finally, at level 60, you get the magic that is Shockwave, when you use this, try to hit as many mobs as possible with it. Revenge also creates a nice amount of threat.
4. Head straight down the prot tree, picking up last stand, concussion blow, and devastate as soon as you can. I had something like this at level 60, it seemed to work well. By the time you reach 80 you should have something like this. Although I'm not convinced by deep wounds, and will probably shift those to cruelty when I remember to do it.
5. I've heard warriors complaining about this, but I've never seen it, As far as I can tell, Shield specialization takes care of this, even though 5 rage isn't much, its enough to tide you over untill you take damage again. If your blocking/dodging/parrying enough. Chill of the Throne somewhat mitigates this problem even further(if there ever was a problem). I only really see it becoming an issue in heroics, when you outgear them by a huge margin.
6. Ive only ever picked up bits and pieces for an offspec, so I cant really tell you much about dpsing, but arms is alot less strain on your gear, fury needs a ton of hit/expertise (I believe)
7. I honestly cant remember the last time I died while soloing. And it makes soloing BC and Vanilla instances really easy.

Hope this helped.

It has begun...lol. Thanks for the advice on heirlooms. I've got like, what is it, six? Lol! I had the bow lying around from my Hunter, figured why not. I had fun sniping down those mobs though before I got Charge.

Just kind of rending and heroic striking and thunder clapping when there's multiple mobs... **** barely hurts me, and what I do lose in HP I gain back by those trinkets, they're sick.

Owned Zalazane and three of his friends at like level 6, hahahah.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll keep you posted!

I may be a little late to the party, and I'm sure the OP is much farther along now.

I rolled a Warrior last week with the idea of learning how to tank, and then being able to maybe make a tank spec on my 80 DK (who is all DPS).

1) Yes. I have done ZERO quests from the moment I hit level 15. My warrior is 27 as of last night w/ maybe 1day 2hours played on him.

2) I went with the Chest, the Shoulders, and at 1st the Sword, but then Changed to Mace. I still need to get 2 of the trinkets..I just have not been in the mood to farm Heroics for 100 T-emblems.

3)I stay in Defensive Stance, use Taunt on my 1st Target (link others) and then spam Thunder Clap. If there is enough on me and I'm building rage fast enough I try to get all the mobs together so I can use... Cleave? The move that hits your target, but also the ones standing near your main target. hit that twice and then a TC.

Do shouts as needed.

If I see targets running off towards Range DPS/Healer I have taunt to bring them back.

4)I fail w/ WoW macros. So all my stuff is hot keyed and I play with a Game-pad. so everything I need is right at my fingers or a Click what needs to go off lol.

5) Never heard of this, so I guess I get to wait and see.

6) If I unlock off spec I'm going Fury. I always thought it was cool to be able to dual wield two 2Handers.

7) so far, how omg fast I get groups lol.

At times I feel I'm doing a good job. Other times I feel like people can tell I'm a total noob at tanking, but 8/10 it is the DPS who doesn't wish to wait for a TC to go off before they decide to AoE..or the DPS that thinks they need to pull groups, all the time, no matter how many are already on me, to me (they get to take dirt naps). I feel pretty good w/ my self when healers say I'm an easy heal, I hope to stay that way XD

This will happen when you are at 80 and more geared in general. I have can serious rage issues as a bear, rage tank, in heroics if I can't chain pull, I hate H VH for this reason.

Will also happen when you over spam HS and aren't taking enough damage, more typically this will be in an OT role in a raid situation. Happens on Jaxx sometimes as he does other attacks on random people and hits like a wet noodle. Can easily Maul through a rage bar pretty fast, Maul is HS for bears.

Overall the rage thing isn't that big of an issue. You will need to learn when to pop your gimmie rage CD as blowing it early can be bad with over active DPS.

As a side note I like Arms better than Furry for an off spec, as it seems way more fun to me.
