I'm juuuust starting to gear up my hunter right now, and its tons of fun. However, I'm getting very lazy.

I've read up on my priority list and know what I have to do. However, I'm too lazy to get aimed shot in there, so I really need a kick to up my DPS.

I know my gear needs enchants. I'm working on hodir right now to be able to buy the shoulder one. That's not really what I'm here for though. :P I just need direction on my rotation a bit again, since the last time I played was way back when "OMG MORE THAN ONE MOB! VOLLEY!" was the way of the hunter. Now I'm not sure if I should be using volley for packs of 3.

For example, should I be waiting for killshot to engage if I know my steady shot will overlap it? Are traps not used anymore simply for the explosive shot proc? Should I be waiting .5-1 second between explosive shots on the proc, or should I be using up a GCD between? For long boss fights, am I using berserking and rapid shot(is that the name) to gain my mana back, or when heroism gets popped?

Also wondering how much DPS you guys think you could get with my gear on a heroic target dummy, fighting only until mana is depleted.

I really want to be a great hunter, rather than one who simply beats people way above his gearscore in damage done and DPS. :P

Edit for armory link. ><

Holy ADD Batman!

Sorry for the confusing post, I was very tired this morning.

Still, I'd like some help if anyone can share it. I guess it would just be easier to construct everything a lot better.

1) When to use Volley? Packs of 3, or 4?

2) When bringing down trash, do you guys wait until 20% HP to hit killshot, or do you guys continue with normal rotation until dead? (I'm talking about trash that will live for more than 5 seconds in total, like most mobs in PoS)

3) Is explosive trap not used anymore, now that we have the new shot that shares the same CD? I've tried using it in different scenarios, and I really can't find anything. If I try to trap mobs before they spawn a la Violet Hold, I end up pulling aggro, right out of consecrate.

4) Are you guys waiting between explosive shots when you do get the proc, or do you guys use up a GCD in between?

5) Rapid Fire(or whatever the name) and berserking. Use when out of mana and need to replenish, or when heroism gets popped and its time to burn the mob down?(with the assumption that I will run out of mana before the end of the fight)

6) Again, with the stats I have, how much DPS do you think you'd be able to put out? I'm pushing out just over 3k before I run out of mana on the target dummy. Is that terribad?

My opinions only (not saying they are best)

1) Multi for 3, anymore volley
2) If I can kill shot I do it
3) For big packs of trash I MD tank run in drop explosive in middle of pack, Disengage and volley (lots of pretty numbers)
4) Personally I get another shot in, more skilled hunters will probably wait
5) lol I'm a nab so it gets mashed whenever its up
6) I'm not gonna guess what DPS you should be doing, the spreadsheet will tell you that, but by far the most important thing people like Aethien etc have taught me is dont move when you dont have to. Movement kills dps

1) Previously I had volleyed down to three, but last night this question prompted me to put in a keybinding for Multi-Shot.
2) I don't use Kill Shot on trash. I don't have a Power Auras cooldown timer on it (yet - I will tonight, though), so on bosses I don't have enough information to put off the next "normal" rotation shot and wait for it to come off. I wouldn't wait more than 1/2 second in any case, though.
3) I don't trap dance for ES procs, I find the current Black Arrow well enough balanced in that regard. I hadn't though of using it in concert with the new Misdirect... I think I'll still reserve my trap cooldown for a frost/freeze to handle if someone grabs aggro.
4) Half and half. I'll refresh Black Arrow or Serpent Sting between ES but I won't try to weave in an Aimed or god forbid a Steady. I'm considering macroing in a Quartz timer to my ES macro to make sure I wait the full 2 seconds - the worst thing you can do is wait, but wait not quite long enough.
5) Right now, I save it for burn phase. If I expect the fight to last more than five minutes, I'm using it at the beginning as well. I'm not sure if it's best to overlap the misdirect or ramp up more slowly and use it once I'm sure the tank has fully grabbed aggro. Probably depends on the tank.
6) I can't load your toon into femaledwarf, but it doesn't seem horrible. Generally, where the question is some variant of "How much DPS should I be doing?" the proper answer is "Don't ask me - ask the spreadsheet"...

Keep Black arrow and Serpent Sting up as often as you can, don't overwite SS. Explosive shot whenever it's off CD, wait the .5-1 second between LnL procs, it's been show to be a DPS increase from trying to throw in a steady, aimed, or multi shot in there. Fire traps share their CD with Black Arrow, so snake trap is really the only viable one for trash pulls (freezing trap/ arrow and frost trap aside, since you really don't use those often at all anymore).

Volley's damage is still pretty nice, so for trash packs of even 3 or more would be good to Explosive Trap + Volley to burn down, but it's your call. I prefer to focus fire them one at a time, figh might last just as long but one way you have the full damage coming in the whole time, focus fire decreases the amount of damage incoming for every one killed.
