As a paladin tank, one of the first things that I saw was this:

Quote:

Defense - Defense is being removed from the game entirely. ___Tanking classes should expect to become uncrittable versus creatures just by shifting into Defensive Stance, Frost Presence, Bear Form, or by using Righteous Fury.___

This will make gear choices a lot more versatile since budget can (and must! since we loose a lot of it when no longer having defense) be spend on avoidance in many ways:

Quote:

Parry - Parry no longer provides 100% avoidance and no longer speeds up attacks. Instead, when you parry an attack, it and the next attack will each hit for 50% damage (assuming they hit at all). In other words, Dodge is a chance to avoid 100% of the damage from one attack, Parry is a chance to avoid 50% of the damage from two attacks, and Block is a chance to avoid 30% of the damage from one attack.

Nice read, be sure to catch up.

I was hoping they were going to get rid of healing plate. :(

I still have hope but the, "Wear your armor type for a mastery boost." kind of kills my dream.

I'm just jealous as a holy pally is easy to gear up as they have the least competition for gear.

I dunno, the thing is that blizzard really doesn't know what they are doing with stats half the time.

Mp5 in T7, Haste/Crit balance in T8 forcing paladins to Elemental shaman gear etc.

They talk about balancing set/offset to create a challenge in gearing up. They don't want people just stacking 1 stat etc like int or crit. Look at T10 Spellplate though and there are some **** choices, look at spellplate and mail and there are some neat choices for keeping haste cap, and balancing mp5/crit while pushing SP.

But hey what do I know, I just play the class and they create Agi/Spirit gear in vanilla wow /shrug

I fully expect that they will get rid of healing plate, at least as a dead drop for other classes/specs.

At least at some point, I expect either a STR->INT conversion talent in the 5th or higher tier of the Holy tree allowing healadins to share ret plate - or a vendor who converts healing plate and healing mail back and forth to an "equivalent" item.

Plate is just too strong in the lore to abandon, and a cataclysmic redesign is a good chance to get us back to our roots and away from the de-facto agreement that Holy paladins might as well be mail-wearers for the rest of LK. But ever since BC it's been an itemization problem that there is gear that only one spec/class out of 30 in the game can even use.

Why don't they just have paladins share spellpower mail with elemental and resto shamans? You still have the iconographic 2h hammer wielding ret paladins in plate, and the sword and board tanking paladins, but even in most animations, the holy paladins look like they're wearing robes anyways. Heck, the best graphic paladin set was basically robes just labeled as 'plate'. they could still have very (maybe even more...) holy paladin looking tier sets made up.

It just seems like caster mail and caster plate are some of the least used in the game, would be smart to combine them so both groups have a wider range of drops to roll on. If its vital to them that paladin healers have the armor class of plate, it would be easy to make a talent that increases armor value for defense.

The ability to solo old content is being massively nerfed with those tanking changes. The added stats from cata will probably balance it out so i can still breeze through ZG mount runs but i guess i wont be soloing ulduar at any point. sadface

1. The Defense change is going to be interesting. I have a bear tank who is my 3rd-string-alt. I have no clue what I'm doing. So, I think it will be interesting to learn how the paladin class is going to tank. It also makes me wonder if you are going to see Rets trying to tank with RF up. (Granted that type of speculation is just way too wild and no one knows what they are doing with the trees/talents/etc...

2. I'm fine with the Block, Parry, Dodge stuff.

3. I hope they homogenize pally gear, but as several have said, I’m concerned about blizzard’s stat choice.. I liked how they did it with tanking – changing us from our old gear to more “Tank Gear” in Wrath. In Cata, I don’t care if it’s STR converting to something else or if it’s INT converting… What I don’t like is the 3 completely different sets in order to PVE… Not to mention the 2ish sets to PVP…
