Spec for doubles leveling?Follow

Hey all,

My wife and I are starting new toons. She's going a prot pally, and I'm trying to figure out what to match. It's between a rogue and a mage. My main concern is dealing dmg without causing her to have to back off and heal me constantly. We've tried other combos already, which is why we're wanting to go a new route.

Anywho, Sub seems the best way to keep my aggro down, is that necessarily true? I am in no way familiar with rogues, I'm usually the caster (shammy, druid)...

And for the other question, does a rogue do a better job of helping kill without massive aggro? Or a mage?

thoughts?

Thanks!

Quite honestly, you can dps in any tree and be fine with aggro. Usually combat would be better (or assassination when you can get mut).

But no matter what tree you've got a few aggro dumping abilities (Feint, Vanish, etc.). As long as you don't go crazy right when she pulls, you should be fine (wait a second or two). Also, you will eventually get Tricks of the Trade as well (which is pretty much a rogue's misdirect), which will help with your aggro.

If I remember correctly, mages only have Invisibility and Ice Block. Even then, Ice Block is not necessarily an aggro dump, but a way to protect yourself for a few seconds for her to pick the mob back up.

As a rogue, you can have a mob beat on you for a bit until your wife can pick it up ("Evasion tanking")

Have you considered Druid? Dual hybrid makes sense to me for some reason.

In the end, anything that you enjoy playing along side your lovely wife is the "right class". WoW isn't a hard game, especially while leveling. So just play what you like and figure out how you two can achieve your goals with the tools available to you in the class that makes you enjoy playing.

As to the rogue specific stuff: Combat would make the most sense to me. Both Assassination (i.e. Mutilate) and Sub can be very bursty. Whereas Combat tends to have very smooth threat curves comparatively. It's also the most stable and easiest to gear for while leveling. Once you can score Mutilate, that's also an option but if you always pair with your wife, I'd suggest holding onto Combat until 80 and working out what changes you want to make when you know your plans for end-game more clearly.

Good luck!

I wanted to thank both of you for your advice. Especially when we hit 20 and she got Consecration, I'm rarely getting pummeled anymore than I can handle. And, I underestimated how much fun my wife has playing the role of MY protector lol. Combat does indeed to be working out well.

I have tried druid, and I honestly just bored of it as a feral kitty. I just don't like changing forms for various spells and what not. That's why I preferred shammy.

Again, thank you again!
