I'm one of those who hang out outside Orgrimar and duel for hours.
Lately I've been seen more people gem'ing for spell penetration on their gear. The first guy i saw was a DK (I PvP with a DK too, but I gem for strength /shrug?), full furious, every single gem slot with spell penetration gems in them. Fist thing i said to myself was "LOL, Noob!" but then i saw had a 2200+ rating and some kind of PvP ****** like "Duelist" or something so he must be doing something right. Spell penetration on a DK was odd (at least they do spell damage), but then later on i saw a FERAL cat druid, fully PvP geared as well with spell penetration gems and he had his nice arena rating too.
So what am I missing here? What does spell penetration do that's worth changing all my strength gems?

Spell penetration cancels out resistance.
Having your root/cyclone resisted hurts.
Same for diseases on a Dk, explosive shot/chimera shot partial resists on a hunter etc etc.

Were they *only* gemming for spell penetration, because that would be odd.
Back when I had my golden age of PvP as a Frost DK, I gemmed for 130 spell penetration. To quote WoWwiki:

Well the druid had some agility gems, but the DK was the one fully gemmed (epic gems) for spell penetration.
So just to be clear, If i put more than 130 SPen on my DK i'm not doing anything useful?
But most importantly, if it's not a big deal, can i just keep my strength gems? >_> I mean the most rating i've had i think it was 1300~, it's not like i'm a huge arena player. I'm just curious, it seemed odd to me to see that.
