New tank set-up in old content.Follow

So we gem for stamina now, ***** agility, ***** socked bonus and all that, right? Well I AM doing better on ICC trash 'cause i have an increase amount of HP. But what about old content? ToC, VoA and heroics, etc. I can really see the difference even in heroics. I usually have 45k HP with the minimum buffs you get from a heroic and i lose some big chunks of hp doing a miserable heroic. This of course scales when i tank VoA or ToC, kinda makes me feel weak as a tank.

Does any other druid tank notice this or is it just me? I think they should attune the old content (at least ToC, ToGC and VoA) to the new tanking mechanics. It doesn't make sense to me to have tanks require a lot of stam only for ICC, then have them require avoidance for the rest of the previews raids. Or at least that's how i feel...

Stam stacking got to be huge because of ToGC not ICC. Avoidance works really well on some ICC bosses.

To be honest, I felt weak when I couldn't gem for pure stamina. I saw Paladins running around with 40k unbuffed health in less than 5k GS and I had my 32k. Druids used to rely on their health to tank stuff, but I guess Paladins took over there, along with avoidance and armor as well. Well, maybe not armor. Don't know if Paladins reach 31k unbuffed and 40k with trinkets up.

I wish I could gem for pure stamina. I wish I could gear for pure stamina. Having two trinkets with not an ounce of stamina makes me sad. Not having negative dodge inside ICC is pretty nice, though. Just wish I had 20% parry and 40% block to go with it. And I know we get Savage Defense, or whatever it's called, instead of block, but that doesn't prevent Paladins from using Sacred Shield which is essentially the same, except better from what I can tell.

At least we rule on the threat meters... oh wait.

Bah, Don't get me started on Paladins... You reaaally don't wanna do that. >:(

You mentioned savage defense, I'm at 42% crit chance now down from 49% crit chance i had when i switched to stam gems. Hopefuly that extra 7% chance to "block" i lost is not much of a loss compared to the HP i gained, wich is roughly 6k or 7k, i don't remember...

A 50% crit chance would probably only be good if you hit the boss twice every time he hits you once. If the boss hits you once every three of your hits, you wouldn't need that high a crit chance.

With a 42% chance to "block", you're almost looking at a permanent damage reduction. At least if bosses have a 2-second swing time (parry haste not included). With Maul, Mangle and Lacerate, you're probably looking at close to 100% uptime on Savage Defense, even at 42% crit.

Or in other words, go look at some logs of you in worldoflogs and check your uptime for Savage Defense.

World of Logs is pretty interesting, actually. I checked out some of the raid statistics for overall data.

In Vault of Archavon HPS went from 2500 on Arch to over 9000 (!) on Tora. Pretty sick scaling. Also, 40-ish percent success rate on Malygos. That third phase really kills people, hehe.

Sta is so ToC. Agi rocks in ICC.

I find it's a bit like old time tanking again. Get your sta up to a decent level and then stack agi. That way, when you do pop out for an old-school raid of 5-man you have 50%+ avoidance. Basically, once I cracked 55k buffed health in ICC I put together a threat/avoidance set. The healers just get exhausted otherwise. If I switch to pure sta I can get upwards of 60k but thats only useful when I'm mirror on Queen. It's hard to imagine an ICC-geared tank having trouble in the old raids, frankly. Even in my stam set I think I'm at 45% dodge or so.
