Hi there

Just to give a little history I have been playing for about 3months now, have only lvld hunter and have got to 52 99% of that in solo work.

I'm in a small guild and although they have boosted (?) me through a couple of instances the majority of my time is spent with just my Raptor and me.

Everyday when I log on I see the little Random dungeon button taunting me to try it however I'm a little aprehensive especially when I read all the stories about people being booted for having rubbish gear etc etc. Add to that the fact that when people on the forums talk about Gearscores and DPS (i have no idea what my DPS is) Its pretty much all over my head. Am I missing out on a huge chunk of things or at 52 shouldnt I be worrying about this type of stuff yet?

I have tried to focus my gear as best as I can and from what I gather Agility is the single most important stat for Hunters. That said I have very little money and only green Gear theres only so much I can do. the general opinion is because you change your gear so much up until 80 its not really worth doing the instances.

While I have read about the Random Dungeons I guess this post is asking as a Hunter what should I do when I actually do these dungeons (stand and shoot?) and will I get booted for not having great gear? I dont want to be a hinderence and getting mocked and booted will stop me from ever doing again.

Maybe Im just paranoid and will be welcomed with opened arms by a random group even though Im a newb and still dont really know what im doing

Any thoughts/experiences much appreciated
Thanks

General simple things to keep in mind:
1: Shoot at the things the tank is hitting, not at other things unless it's specifically mentioned.
2: disable growl on your pet, just to be sure.
3: If there's fire, poison or something else that you're standing in you need to get the hell out of it.

The gear gained from instances, and especially the bags at the end of each instance, are worth it and will last you a few levels.

As for stats, from best to worst roughly.
1 agility
2 AP
1 crit
1 intellect
1 stamina

2 crit is still better than 1 agility, 3 Ap is better than 1 agility, 2 intellect is better than 2 AP and stamina should be taken enough to not die when a mob looks at you.
There's a more detailed explanation of how to compare pieces of gear in the FAQ.

I used to skip a lot of dungeons while leveling because the gear was nice but not worth waiting the time to get a group or to find someone else to run me through. Now with the LFD tool, it's actually possible to form groups in a reasonable amount of time. You don't even have to work at it, just quest and the match maker does all of the work. So, since this is your first character and you have no heirloom gear, dungeons would be a great place for you to go.

As for your trepidation of mean players, you may very well run into some of it. Just keep in mind that everyone has to start somewhere and don't let a few bad eggs ruin your game time. When most people see a character without heirloom gear and not at level cap they assume it is a first time character. Because of this they will likely be more tolerant to mistakes and hopefully give you helpful advice along the way.

Really, it's better to learn group mechanics while your leveling so you have a solid foundation for when you hit level cap. If you try to group for the first time at level cap and have no idea about group etiquette and teamwork in this game, that is when people will lose their patience and most of the nastiness will occur.

So take the plunge and have some fun.

Try it, do what Aethien says in his post and see for yourself. Leveling in dungeons is pretty fast, seems that way to me anyway, compared to the quest grind which is exceedingly boring ot me. Dungeons also let you practice your group tactics and give you a purpose instead of the doldrums of walking/ riding to and from quest hubs.

The gear you can get from dungeons and the loot bags can also last you wuite a few levels if you get the right pieces....Your dungeon right now though for lvl 52 is Blackrok Depths or Sunken Temple....which both suck, but have good gear. You'll know BRD like the back of your hand if you do what I did and level almost exclusively in dungeons from 50-58.

GS only matters at 80 when doing Heroics or raids, everybody's GS sucks leveling UNLESS they level through dungeons and get good gear, so if you're worried about your GS, the only way to correct it would be to do what you are apprehensive about, so just get in there and do it, you might just get your game reinvigorated and love it.

You aren't alone, I too stayed out of groups that were going to do a dungeon. And it was a confidence issue more then anything else. I finally decided that I needed to get one of my 5 80's a bit more better geared and take the leap.

I figured that with the random dungeon finder, I would be grouping with people that aren't on my server, as well they aren't apt to remember me or my server if everything falls apart. Therefore on my server I won't be getting a bad rep as it is with others. Suffice to say after the first few I started to gain more confidence and to date on 5 level 80's I have acquiredabout 500+ emblems. I do Heroics and also have geared my druid to heal them.

Remeber the random dungeon finder is your best option. just take it slowly and always assist the tank. You'll do fine.

Hi, 90% of the time when people mock you it is because you are doing something stupid. Don't get offended, learn from it as either they are right or wrong and if they are wrong you can ignore them. If you aren't sure of the case; figure it out afterward or mid run if possible. Sometimes the people yelling at you may be half on the mark but slightly off. Regardless reading up on all the specs you use can never hurt.

Follow the 3 steps Aeth laid out and you'll be fine until you hit the level cap.

As a side note tanks are angry people in general. I alternate between not saying much and exploding in anger. Many tanks follow the same basic pattern.

If you are like me and don't like to spend a whole lot of time number crunching to figure out in which order to use your skills, I would recommend an addon like Ovale or something similar to give you a little help with rotation to increase your DPS.
