Ok so allow me to start that I've been gone for 6 months. I was building up to being a decent tank for my guild. But as things go I had to take a long break (3 months longer than expected when my 3D accelerator went out on my vid card.).

Anyways to the point. I am trying to get back into tanking. The first thing I was told when I let my guild leader know I was coming back finally was, "good cause we can use a good tank." So my thing is I'm looking for how to adjust my spec for Tanking post 3.3, since the old specs seem like they are out the window. I've come here because while I don't post much this is where I always look up info.

My current Char,

I have already seen that I can majorly upgrade with triumph badges, so I know I KNOW I need to upgrade my gear, and then enchants, then gems. What I'm really looking for is spec ideas, and best agro building priority's. I'm reading on other places as well. But this is my home on the web so would love all the constructive criticism y'all can give me.

Thank you

Just do heroic Lich King random dungeon till you drop. Then do some more! If you're lucky, you can finish 3 per hour. That's 15 emblems of Triumph for you! Doing so, you'll be able to get 2 Thassarian gear (Hands and Shoulder) in 4 hour of play. After that, just collect more Emblems (100) to get your chest and leg. Then, move to Faceplate of the Honorbound (75 emblems) and so on. When you finish gathering all the gears available with emblems of Triumph, you can then move to tanking the 3 new heroic 5 man dungeon in ICC that drop ilvl 232 stuff.

From there, move to 10 man raid and the gathering of Emblem of Frost (weekly raid quest and daily random heroic dungeon). The rest is up to you (and your free time! or lack of sleep!)

regards,

Like the previous poster said, doing random dungeons is an EXCELLENT way to gear toons fast now. You can get 2-pieces of T9 very quickly. Though I don't necessarily think that's the best course of action before raiding, as many off-piece items that are easily available without raiding are superior to the T9 pieces (at least for heroics) and the set bonus won't really outweigh them until you get the 4pc.

First of all, which tree do you enjoy the most? All of them are perfectly acceptable for Heroic tanking. I'd say Frost and Unholy are much easier than Blood, but the latter is slightly superior for raid boss tanking for most fights (heavily magical fights may give an edge to Unholy, with AoE fights evening up the playing field between all 3).

Once you pick a tree, we can help you build a spec and give you more specific gearing tips.

Just one note: The Glyph of Icebound Fortitude does nothing for you. It is a PvP glyph, meant for DKs that don't have any Defense on their gear.

The Glyph of Unbreakable Armor is also useless. It is literally only a few % more mitigation--there are many (less defensive, albeit) glyphs that are much better, such as the Glyph of Obliterate, Howling Blast, Icy Touch or Rune Strike.

If you stay Frost, I recommend Oblit, IT and FS. Though you can switch FS to HB or RS if you prefer.

13/51/7 is the spec i use, work very well and no aggro problems at all. Rotation is DnD-IT-PS-Pest-HB-BB-OB/FS dump-HB-BB-BB.

Have fun tanking.

Thank you very much. I am going Frost and yes I need to make myself new Glyphs, I really forget what I was thinking putting those in. I appreciate the suggestions and I'll be constantly adjusting i know but it's all a good place to start.
