Hello

With the seasonal event and the +75 atk power boost available at level 1 I decided to level a few new toons and get a really basic feel for some of the classes in the game I've never played, Rogue being one of them.

I've decided Combat is the easiest spec to play (I have all weapons trained and right now I'm using the highest dps weaps I can get my hands on). I'm not much of a quester any more so I do most of my leveling through dungeons.

I'm wondering if SS spam + keeping Slice and Dice up while maybe throwing some bombs is all I can do for DPS? Is eviscerate modified by attack power or base weapon damage? It seems my white hits and SS do more damage than Eviscerate unless I have 3+ combo points on a target.

Also, is Expose Armor useful in 5 mans or is it strictly for longer fights like Raid Bosses? Right now I'm spending nearly all my combo points on S&D and all my energy on SS. Am I getting into some bad habits or is this how most Rogues play until 60+?

For leveling Combat is the best until you can get Mutilate, but play what you enjoy.

I'd say SS spam and keep SnD up as you work through multiple mobs would work best. Don't worry too much about other finishers, and Expose Armor is nothing to worry about either.

Most combat rogues will do 3 combo points > SnD > 5 combo points > Evis (3s/5e). Using Evis with less than 5cps isn't very useful.

As GoM said, Expose armor isn't really necessary. I don't even think I've ever pulled it out onto my action bar. A lot of the time you have a warrior around to do sunders so it's completely useless then. I think the only times I've ever tried using it was when there was no warrior, and it was on a bigger boss fight.

Is that a bad thing? Besides, the OP wasn't asking about PVP- he was asking about leveling & dungeons.

It's more of a joke with the fact on how much I fail at PVP. But hey! Teddy pulled me into their arena team so maybe I'll actually start getting better! =P

(plus the fact that I just got my rogue some nice PVP pieces from VoA 25 and 10)

Is it a bad thing? My answer would be yes.

I'd hate to hear of anyone that plays a rogue and doesn't pvp, ever. Rogues are one of the most fun classes to pvp with, and are very strong pvp classes. I'm not saying that everyone should go for Gladiator, but not even doing bgs is kind of lame.

I know the OP was asking about PvE. However, he might one to venture into the bg leveling, and using EA is pretty pro in pvp, on certain classes. I personally haven't taken a low level character into a bg, but I heard that the XP is very nice. The actual statement I heard was, that it was the fastest way to level.

I occasionally PVP, but it's not my main interest. I do it when I'm in the mood- which is rarely. And I've heard it's an okay way to level, but is not the most efficient method of getting xp. But I should stress that I believe that everyone should play whatever way makes them happy- as long as their happiness doesn't come at the expense of other peoples' enjoyment of the game. (That doesn't include people that like BGs but suck at them- after all, they could simply not play BGs if they don't enjoy them).

Edit: Feyras, rated you back up - although your position on PVP isn't the same as mine, it was civil and honest, so I didn't see a need for it to be rated down.

And yet...I hate PvP. So...why should I? Even if I'm playing a Rogue. Admittedly, I have done them before, but I don't have EA on my bars either.

I appreciate it, but you shouldn't have. Unlike others on this specific forum, I don't care if I get rated up, or down. However, I do find it funny that when I state my opinion, in a non-flaming way, I get rated down. But, when I give completely helpful information, nobody rates me up(see "been away awhile" thread).

I really could careless, though. Some people come on here and right all kinds of "guides" for the forums, but all they're really doing is copy/pasting information straight from elitist jerks, and trying to make it seem like their own. I personally just link elitist jerks and refer people over there. Because honestly, these rogue forums don't really original information on them every since Theo, Therion, RpZip, and a few other quit posting.

I only come to this website because a few of my "e-friends" here. Look at the first 10-15 posts in this forum. You will see the same type of thread a few times, with the same answers. However, others come in and ask the same questions thinking that the answer will be different from the answers in the thread made 2 days before that.

Now, keep looking. After I broke down the basic rotation for mutilate, and link elitist jerks, GoM creates a whole thread about the spec. I have no beef with GoM, and he is one of the more informative posters in the rogue world, now. But, that thread wasn't needed. If something I put was wrong in the rotation, he could have simply posted a reply correcting it. All of the rest of the information was in the link to elitist jerks.
