Help with my Pally...Follow

#1 Feb 03 2010 at 2:09 AM Rating: Decent
Their is so much talk about how a Paladin should tank. I have read ad re read all the forums most go more towards end game. But I cant seem to hold any aggro with a frosty mage, I keep it off shamans, druid any even the rouge tanks... I still cant seem to hold it at all when a mage goes crazy with his blizzard. Just wanted to know if you all would have any help. Also if you might tell me if I'm gearing and specing him right.

Here is My Armory Link http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Grizzly+Hills&cn=Kamishi

Thanks in advance....

Your gear is on track from what I can see.

As far as your spec goes, it looks fine so far except that you are 5/5 in Divinity and you totally passed up Sacred Duty which is a bad idea. You're also only level 47 though, so I wouldn't worry too much about holding aggro because some classes get a big boost to their dps at certain levels, especially if they're dressed up in Bind-On-Account gear.

Silly question probably - are you keeping Righteous Fury up?

Yea Righteous Fury is up all the time. Do you think I should re spec and drop divinity to get sacred duty, get Divine sacrifice, and Divine guardian or would it matter?

Well, in my opinion at such an early level, it really doesn't matter. You're still going through Vanilla content, and from the looks of things no healer should have a problem keeping you alive. I would suggest later on when you hit Outlands though to go 3/5 Divinity and go 2/2 Sacred Duty. As far as Divine Sacrifice and Divine Guardian, those are situational talents. I'd only pick them up if you find yourself using it often, otherwise don't bother. For right now my advice to you is to don't worry about your spec and keep trucking through Vanilla. Again, your gear is fine, and aggro should not be a problem either as you continue to level up and pick up more key talents.

I recently leveled as a pally tank through the LFD system and I may know what your problem is... consecrate. Using it every single secound will drain your mana like no other, but if you drop divinity and get redoubt while keep blessing of sanctuary and holy shield on 99% of the time your mana will never be a problem. The glyph into consecrate for the bonus two seconds may or may not help. Hope that helps

Well I only have one real healer that my little brother and he never has a problem healing me. But I think I know what you mean about switching it around a little bit more and this being just Vanilla content. I guess that mage just had me second guessing my self.(or was it being turned into a frog) Well any way I do thik you for the advice EpicUnderwear it was really helpful.

I have started to die down the use of consecrate a lot I don't use it every time its off cd. But I still use it alot. With mana i have really seen my self go low once that is in Zul Farrack when your at the steps, there I use consecrate a lot, but over all I don't run out of mana the reason I use that glyph is because it was cheaper then the others at 30 gold a piece that one was only 2 gold. I do you you for the help and advice you can never have to much information.

As you get high enough to spend the points in the retribution tree it is very worthwhile to spend a point and get seal of command to tank with in anything up through heroics. This is your trash seal to tank with. It will by far give you the best overall threat on a pack of adds with crazy aoeing dps. Nothing lives long enough except perhaps the bosses in anything up to raids to make corruption stack more threat that socomm will give you.

This was your problem. I feel like such a nerd for knowing this, but I'm assuming you were running Zul'Farrak when this happened? One particular mob you encounter in the dungeon is a something or other "Shadow Hunter". These mobs will hex you (similar to polymorph) and completely drop aggro and go after the next person highest in threat as well as the rest of the pack you happen to be fighting. This will happen frequently in that dungeon unless they are made the primary target.
