Before getting dual spec, up to what level is it possible to spec ret for questing efficiency while still being able to heal adequately for LFD?

Also, if I decide to dabble with tanking, how far can I go before having to make a heal/ret vs tank/ret decision, assuming only 1 spec?

Thanks.

Before dual spec, I don't think you should have much problem healing as Ret up to about 35 as long as the dps are not trying to tank as well. As far as sticking to one spec and filling two roles, there is a thread on the general board of a member tanking as Ret all through the Vanilla instances, so you'd be able to be Tank/DPS all the way up to 58 if that's what you want to do. Again though, for healing, I wouldn't chance it past 35 when you start hitting instances like SM Cath, RFK and ZF, assuming you're trying to heal in Ret gear.

Edit: I was wrong, the thread I was referring to, he tanked till 40 as Ret, and then switched.

If you have the gear with intel and what not and are a competent healer you can easily heal till about sunken temple with little problem. Yes you will be yelled at by tanks and dps when they go down, but it happens. Tanking on the other hand is easy as ret if you are geared for tanking because seal of command is a good aoe aggro grabber.

Though I dont recommmend healing as a ret but it is possible.

Assuming you are running w/ properly lvl'd toons (aka - not boosted though with an 80)

You should have no problem if you have two gear sets.

You will likely start to have issues in SM as many of the mobs are "runners" and healers who can HoT or AoE will find it easier when that sort of thing happens. If everything goes smoothly you should be fine until ZF... ZF has a lot of casters and I'd think you'd want to spec for casting... Technically (And some epeen here will tell you) you can heal or tank through all of Vanilla as Ret... I don't think that's reality though.

Get an INT set (You can wear non-plate)
Get a good weapon or 1H Shield combo - what ever gives you the best stats....
Get some mana pots

The pally I'm currently leveling just hit 54 today. I was stuck around 43 or close when LFD system came out.

I have re-spec'd twice into protection straight build, and now 9 points in ret. Honestly, I like tanking as prot, but seemed to have an easier time keeping aggro, and had more stuff to play with, as ret tank.

Could be because the instances are changing, maybe I couldn't successfully tank in full ret build now, but I think I could still be competent.

Same goes with healing. Few points into healing bonus' but a main ret build should be sufficient for quite a few levels.

I'm really liking tanking, and had never done it before lol Have my priest leveling up also, so have heals an tank covered, whomever wins the popularity contest with LFG hehe
