Tank Trinket QuestionFollow

Currently, I am using these two trinkets:

Valor Medal of the First War

And

Bitter Balebrew Charm

And I see this trinket on the Triumph Badge Quartermaster:

Glyph of Indomitability

My question is, how useful exactly is 1792 armor? Now, 512 Dodge Rating sounds pretty good, but it is a On-Use trinket and it only lasts 20 seconds, sounds like something you'd only really need to use on some hard-hitting boss. Would that outweigh the benefits of a trinket that is "always on" like the Valor Medal or the Balebrew Charm?

Should I consider spending the 50 Triumph Badges to get this, or should this wait until I have purchased items for all other slots? Is this worth getting at all?

Edit: Any other non-raid solutions would also be appreciated, if any exist.

Edit: Armory Link:

My current goals are:

1). Replace the Crafted ring with the Triumph Ring (35 Emblems)
2). Replace the Libram with the Triumph Libram (25 Emblems)
3). Replace the Leggings with Turyalon's Conquest Legs (50 Emblems)

Then as far as I know, this Trinket is the only thing left that can be upgraded through badges, I think?

11.7 armor is equal to 1 stamina in terms of effective health. So that trinket is roughly equal to 1630 extra hp, plus you get an amazing on use effect to use if you tank anything like festergut.

*nods* Hmm, okay, then I'll add it to my list... I _know_ that ring is a priority; I get a lot of boost out of that ring, and the libram... the libram proc sounds a lot better for tanking heroic trash; I might actually pick up the libram before I do the ring.

I assume the Libram has a chance to proc off all 4 of the hammer hits, or do they mean "per one cast"?

While Glyph aint bad, Most people will want you to stack Stamina since armor and dodge
dose nothing vs non physical damage. The black heart from normal TOC is a great
trinket, it has a armor proc the goes off often. try and get it, just be wary of
any plate dps or cat druids, most likely they will need on it also.
Get the other pieces you said as your goal 1st they are way better upgrades.
replace Valor with Black heart, only get the glyph after you upgraded everything else and
don't need anything else with badges.

I would keep all 3 of those trinkets.

Well I have a better version of the Valor one so I have 2 strong dodge trinkets BUT the only reason I don't have the Valor one is because of that fact.

You're a tank be a trinket *****.

It's your job.

Also the point of gearing as a tank is so you don't need to rely on Stam trinkets that are only big stam with out a proc/use effect.

I love armor also but bear here so YMMV.

edit: As default I use BH and the 245 badge one, I like a dodge on use as an additional 'O SHART' button. I change them around as needed. I keep around 9 on me.

Yea, I wasn't going to throw any trinkets away, as I do realize that they are situational.

I will get the 50 badge one eventually, but like I said the other upgrades would naturally come first.

I haven't run into any other trinkets, but I don't get a lot of time to raid, and I'm hoping that once I complete my badge set, I can go on more guild runs, and maybe even step a toe inside of ICC10, if not just for the Marrowgar quest. I've heard that even the *friendly* Ashen Verdict Ring is pretty nice, let alone the exalted one I'd have after a few Marrowgar weeks.

first of all, i'd say run some H-PoS for Ick's Rotting Thumb. You may not always use dodge rather than stam, but for physical damage this is a good non-raid option. As has been said The Black Heart from regular ToC is another great non-raid option. I'd Pair Valor Medal of the First War w/ Ick's Rotting thumb for pure physical damage avoidance, and The Black Heart w/ Bitter Balebrew Charm for any fight that has spell damage (i.e. 90% of the time). If you get the Glyph of Indomitabity that should replace the Valor trink.

Also... followed your armory link... why do you have str gems as a tank? As a pally threat should never be an issue so if you're gemming str for the threat you might do better checking your rotation. The block you get from str isn't really that useful. Not compared to Dodge, Parry, or even expertise would be really good. Depending on your preference a straight Stam gem would even be good and definitely better than the str.

I was always told to put Strength in red slots, because it helps with threat -and- block value.

Now, maybe I was given bad information... meh. When I see a large bonus like +12 Stamina... sure, I could drop a 30 stam gem in there, but I figured the str and block value And the 12 stamina is a decent choice too.

I used to put dodge gems (or purple dodge/stam) in red slots that had good socket bonuses, but I was told by a few people "no, no, do strength instead" ...

it's slightly possible i'm wrong... tanking is my 3rd spec... but considering pally threat is the highest of any tank still and block is our weakest stat i'd definitely say dodge, parry or expertise would be best. expertise maybe actually be your best bet. it's a stronger threat+survival stat than str by a lot. not being dodged or parried is good for threat and not being parried helps keep you from getting parry gibbed... since you didn't seem to be using Glyph of Seal of Vengeance you definitely want more expertise.

Agi/Stam or Dodge/Stam for any red gem slots is preferred. Agility gives you armor, crit and dodge. Agility is between 97%-99% as effective as dodge for reducing damage intake. Here is a link to that and a really good guide on enchanting/gemming for Prot Paladins.

The beauty about trinkets as a tank is they can change your gearing quite a bit by themselves. If you havent picked up a better effective health trinket by the time you have the badges for the Glyph I would definitely pick it up for your effective health set if not main tank set.

Edit: forgot the link
