Hello Priest forum! Just dropped by to ask something simple. I have a Priest that I haven't played since early naxx days, and even then not much. Yes, I understand the gear and gems are terrible and I'm a bad person who makes Santa cry with his choices. This was back in the day before I really started caring about not sucking. Unfortunately I have no other gear. I'm just wondering if I were to re-gem and re-enchant said crappy gear would I be able to start healing heroics? I would really like my priest to be my healer character, and I love Discipline healing. I just don't know if I would get laughed out of heroics with a measly 17k mana wearing a mix of dps gear (my primary spec was shadow) and healing gear. I know to stay away from the new heroics and practice my healing in normals for a while, but beyond that do you think I could hack it?

Regem for intellect (int/spellpower in red slots, int/Mp5 or SP/Mp5 to get meta)

And personally I prefer healing focus and imp. renew over divine fury.

Edit: forgot to add, but I think you should be fine for all normal heroics.
The hardest part will be players (specifically tanks) leaving when they see your gear.

Your stats are fine for heroics, at least the easier ones. I hear it can be hard to get a group now at "fine," but people are idiots.

I would advise (just my opinions):

Change out your hit gems for Int in yellow slots. I like Int/SP for red. I personally don't like to gem for regen except when I have to, but if you are running low on mana and need to put in some regen hybrids, or need them for socket bonuses, just remember that MP5 is better than Spirit for Disc.

Change out that spell pen gem in your belt. Int/MP5 or SP/MP5 if you want the socket bonus, straight up Int if you don't care.

Change out the hit enchant on your gloves for the SP one.

I am sure you don't want to put expensive enchants on gear you'll be replacing quickly, but one round of quests gives enough shards for the Wintergrasp head and shoulder enchants, which can be nice fillers. Yeah, they give Resil, but they'll also give you a little extra SP for now, and when you're gearing up every little bit helps.

The Haste enchant is also super cheap for cloak if you think you'll be hanging onto it longer than a day or so.

Boot enchants are not that exciting for us overall, but I'd still replace that with Tuskarr's. Nice for getting out of the ouch as quickly as possible.

I believe you still get Emblems of Triumph, even if you pick your dungeon in the LFG tool. Start with UK and work your way up, collecting gear and badges until you feel comfortable.

Anyway, that's my plan if I ever really start working on my resto Druid.

This advice, I approve of it. It's great to have all the big kids in the priest forum give constructive advice. I rated up till my rating finger hurt, which was only three times because it has this painful gash on it.

Now to make some money which will mean farming saronite and titanium on my paladin :P I wish I had more than 600 g across all toons on that server :(

My philosophy on Disc is gear for Int until mana isn't an issue, well Int/SP red otherwise Int. While getting Int gear look for more crit/Mp5 as mana is your fight at first.

When you forget what mana is stay on crit but drop Mp5 for haste. Also stay Int yellow and Int/SP for red but go SP on blue.

When mana isn't an issue after that go all SP for gems and look for crit/haste on gear.

This will fluctuate as you change content. Mainly the gemming/enchants but also what you are looking for from old content you can easily PuG.

Keeping a few pieces with hit for heroics that are good are recommended as Mind Sear, Holy Fire, Smite and Penance can do some good DPS.

Your Disc so shields, PoM and Renew can do a lot of your work there.

Wasted GCDs are wasted.
