Talent Selection for ShadowFollow

I just got my Shadowfiend, but it is not obvious to me how much use it will be at later levels. Even with Veiled Shadows it can only be used every 3 minutes. So, I was wondering if putting those 2 points into Focused Mind or even Improved Shadow Word: Shield might not be better. I would appreciate any advice that could help me decide on the best choise.

Thanks

I take it you meant Improved Shadow Word: Pain?
Anyway - the use of your Shadowfiend is to regenerate a ******** of mana with the effort of pushing one button. Do not underestimate that power.

That said, I have no clue whether the cookie cutter shadow spec actually picks up Veiled Shadows. Have a look in our new sticky and see what the talent specs there show, I'd say.

The cookie cutter shadow spec puts 1 point in Focused Mind and 2 points in Veiled Shadows. Also, I will put 13 points into Discipline so I could take SW: Shield. With 3 points in Meditation I don't know if mana management will be an issue. And Focused Mind reduces the mana cost of most of your shadow spells by 15% if you fill it out. Decisions,Decisions, lol.

Imp PW:Shield is not all that useful.

It's mandatory for Disc healing.

It might be good for soloing occasionally but you really shouldn't need it for that, it's rubbish for raiding because you'll most likely just interfere with your raid's Disc priest if you shield people, and your shield will always be weaker than theirs in some ways and in Heroics and generally 5mans it's highly situational at best.

Get Meditation if you ever run out of mana. If you don't, don't spec it, but there are much better alternatives to it than Imp PW:S.

The shadowfiend can also be seen as another DoT, and if you can use that more often, all the better. Veiled Shadows will therefore also increase your DPS.

I'd actually be interested in shadowfiend damage maths.

Ah, like that. No, Kalivha is right, Imp PW:Shield is a disc only talent, unless you PvP without a healer.

That said, I'm not much of a shadow priest but afaik Meditation is, even as shadow, always mandatory.

Thanks for the replies. It's much clearer now.

Actually, I've read over at shadowpriest.com that for most fights, mana should be enough of a non-issue do get more DPS increasing talents. Ultimately, those "more" talents are the ones with the lowest priority, so if you have any mana issues whatsoever (even if it's just drinking once per instance), speccing into Meditation is still a good idea. I don't think it's even a question before T9.5 or so because you need very good gear to never have mana issues.
