I am kind of in a pickle. I run balance and resto: typically balance for my heroic dailys and emblem farming, and resto in groups where I know the people and trust the players more than your average pug. I am a pretty casual player, so farming emblems takes me quite a while. I can buy two or three pieces of my runetotem set, but can't figure out which would make more sense: running resto in the balance set, or running balance in the resto set. I would say that overall, I definitely play balance more, but obviously people are depending on me a lot more when I am resto. Opinions?

How comfortable are you with your mana pool?

A lot of times the biggest difference between boomkin and tree gear is the loss of spirit. Obviously +hit isn't going to do your tree any good, but a decent mana regen trinket will more than make up for any loss of spirit because you chose a balance piece. There is also that awakening idol, if you have bad luck with trinkets like I do.

But boomkin gear can be good tree gear as well. I'm sporting the boomkin t9 with my healing set atm because of the oodles of haste it has.

What I tend to do is have Moonkin main set and Tree offset. Heroic gear? Tree. Raid and emblems gear? Moonkin.
Only time I use emblems on Tree is when I dont need more gear of that type of emblem for moonkin.
Maybe you could try that.

My mana pool is fairly small (hovering around 16k with mark of the wild), but I never really have mana issues in a group. In all honesty, my boomkin DPS is so low that it really bums me out and almost makes me not want to waste time with it anymore. Maybe the balance runetotem gear will help.

My day ended up being kind of interesting. I got a group that (politely) told me that my gear was crap. I was told I should try out ToC to gear up... Fair enough, but my gearscore was too low to queue for it. I grabbed a few more emblems and headed to icecrown. I picked up the balance runetotem head, shoulders and hands and tossed some gems on them, queued up, and got dropped into ToC with a group that didn't chat much except to mention my crappy gearscore. @_@
