Hey guys. Just hit 80 today and went on a heroic bender just trying to gather emblems. Here http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dragonmaw&cn=Woehler is my armory. My attributes are scattered and I have just been grabbing whatever pieces I could. I have a few questions.

1. What Spell Power/haste should I be aiming for?

2. Should I try and gem for one or try and raise them both at the same time?

3. Lastly, Do you guys know of any decent gear pieces that I could look for in Heroics/Reg new instances Pit of Saron..etc or even crafted? (I've been looking for some sort of pre raid gear guide but they all seem out of date)

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Congratulations on hitting 80!

1. There is no spellpower number to shoot for - the more the better. Additionally, to reduce your GCD to 1 second you'd need approximately 1640 haste rating at level 80, so I wouldn't worry about capping it. As always, it is about maintaining a good balance between your key stats.

2. Your basic gemming should be:

Meta - Chaotic Skyflare Diamond Note that you need two blue gems equipped to activate it. Use Purified Dreadstone x2 to achieve this.
Red socket - Easy. Runed Cardinal Ruby
Yellow/Blue sockets - These change depending on your overall gearing. If the socket bonus isn't worth it and you are capped on hit rating and have your two blue gems for your meta, then socket a red for pure spellpower. Since your hit rating is very low currently, I'd suggest gemming for hit in your yellow sockets for now as that will be your biggest dps boost until you get more passive hit rating. Later on, your yellows can be filled with Reckless Ametrine if you need the socket bonus, or just drop in a pure spellpower red gem. Similarly, if you need the socket bonus then put the Purified Dreadstone in a blue slot, otherwise just a pure spellpower red gem instead.

3. Databases are your friend, so use them to do some queries and you'll find exactly what you need. Here is a list of cloth items from the normal dungeons. And here is a list of cloth gear from the heroic dungeons. I included Trial of the Champion in addition to HoR, PoS, and FoS because it has epic drops that would be of benefit to you, such as this trinket. Here is a list of crafted cloth gear. You can do similar searches for weapons, offhands, trinkets, etc.

Raise your skill level in your professions. This will allow you to put this enchant on your rings, this on your cloak, and this on your legs.

Good luck!

Oh, sorry, no. I only meant putting those +hit gems in your yellow sockets, and again, only temporarily to boost your hit rating until the gear starts rolling in (which it will fairly quickly). For red sockets definitely go pure spellpower, and blues you can make the call, depending on if you have that meta and need it activated.

If you powerlevel your enchanting, you can also help out your hit by putting Icewalker on your feet and Precision on your hands. For the hand enchant especially, this is only a last resort case where you desperately need some hit rating; otherwise enchant your hands with spellpower.

I only emphasized your hit rating since you need an additional 17% hit to be fully capped for raid bosses (assumed as level 83). Your Supression talents lowers the bar to 14% that needs to come from gear and enchants. Currently you are at 4%. Now, if you only plan on running heroics then you don't need quite that much hit to be capped, however, if you plan to raid then you need to ensure that you are capped. This affects your dps so significantly because imagine firing off a Chaos Bolt that completely misses the mob because of your hit rating - 0 dps. However, in a raid setting (and even somewhat in a 5-man) this can be mitigated by other factors such as having a Draenei (1% due to Heroic Presence), Improved Faerie Fire, etc. So as you can see, it gets somewhat complicated.

The reason I am bringing all this up is to stress again that you shouldn't get hung up on one stat; prioritize and try to maintain a healthy balance between the key ones to maximize your effectiveness. Again, don't worry, it gets much easier as your upgrade your gear.

Until you are hitcapped, Hit > Spellpower > Spirit are the 3 biggest stats you need.

Last I checked, crit/haste were about equal (haste may have pulled ahead with the last patch) but neither should be gemmed/enchanted for.

Generally you want to gem pure Spellpower (ignoring socket bonuses) unless you
a) need the hit, socket hit in yellow
b) need to fulfill meta requirement, socket purple sp/spirit

Your questions, specifically:
1. Spellpower: as much as possible. Haste: take what you get and don't worry about stacking
2. Gem Spellpower as noted above
3. The easiest bet here is go to Wowhead's Browse > Item menu and look up each piece to see where they drop. Off the top of my head, there is probably *something* you can use out of most places. Abyssal Rune in ToC is great, several good pieces in the ICC 5-mans, etc.
