Hi have been getting the badge set and i think i am close to the hit cap but not sure how much haste i need. Once both are capped should i be going just for spell power gems and enchants. What is an ideal spell damage level to be at as most of the time i am not breaking the 2k dps which i know is poor, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hit cap is 17% for raid bosses, heroic bosses are much lower (I think it is 6%?). You are Draenei(Heroic Presence) and have 3/3 Elemental Precision... 4% hit there, so the most hit you will ever need to gear for is 13%, or 341 hit rating, (342 if you want to cover .02% miss.) If you have a shadow priest (misery) or moonkin (imp faerie fire) in your raid group, they provide +3% hit, which drops you to 10%, or 263 hit rating required. (Any points in hit over the cap are wasted, of course.)

As far as the rest of the gearing, I am interested to hear as well, I am in the same boat as far as gearing up (my toon, although probably in my resto set). I have a decent resto set and am in the process of fleshing out my ele set. I finally got the shield to drop from Tyrannus in reg PoS. Only took around 10 runs to get it! >_<

I got booted from a ToC25 raid for only doing ~2500 dps. Smiley: disappointed I am working on my rotation, but I know it is still loose. I start with LB-FS-LvB-CL and then fill with LB, refreshing FS as needed and (trying) to keep LvB and CL on cd. I currently am geared with about 30% crit, 15% haste and 2100 SP unbuffed, wondering if I should be optimizing in any particular way.

(I do about 3800 dps on target dummy, now if I could learn to move and do that. Smiley: blush)

To the OP: I've been told boomkins aren't speccing into IFF, so I'd suggest dropping your hit to your self-buffed cap of 342. You're over the cap atm, by alot.

General gemming guidelines:

1- Spellpower
2- Sp/haste and sp/stam or sp/mp5 (if regen is critically low) to activate the meta.

7 sp is the only socket bonus worth getting, when activating the meta. If ya get more using the above guidelines, good.

Talents look fine (including the few personal utility choice ones). I'd drop Flametongue glyph and put in Lightning. Flametongue is comparable at lower 80 gear levels, but LBolt pulls ahead as gear improves.

Gear: I had more crit than haste for a long while, now haste is overtaking crit. It will vary on your own gear (mainly based on spellpower), so dont worry too much about one over the other.

Other considerations:

1- mp5 gear: A few pcs is the norm these days and the regen doesn't hurt.

2- Spirit gear: Despite spirit being near useless (out of combat regen does -not- count), the gear may be an upgrade. Don't dismiss the gear simply because of spirit.

3- Stat combos: Blizz has gotten creative with caster gear. mp5/crit, mp5/haste, spirit/crit, spirit/haste gear can be found. Ask around if unsure which is the bigger upgrade.
Example: The 2 triumph badge rings: Band of the Invoker and Heartmender Circle. Both were upgrades for me at one time, yet the Invoker was a bigger upgrade due to the haste.

1. You need a 3rd Jewelcrafting gem. Another +39 spellpower somewhere would be nice.
2. You're way over on hit and only need 342, so I'd give a look into the T9 resto chestpiece which has crit and haste on it. (I know that breaks up your cool 5-piece set, but there is no 5-piece set bonus.) -72 hit
3. Grab a Deathchill Cloak from the AH while you work on upgrade. (Really, if you put together the mats, it would be a lot cheaper.) -29 hit (Get the +23 haste enchant.)

There, I took care of 101 hit (oh, oh... too much) and now you'll miss on raid bosses. There's a good chance you'll be looking at Shard of the Crystal Heart soon.

Really, my shaman is in the same boat and am hoping that getting Fire Nova and Thunderstorm into my rotation (and using both of those glyphs) will help my dps.

Hold on, you got your Mudslide Boots on the first run of HPoS and I'm 0 for 20 on even seeing them? I'm done. lol

I never bring Fire Nova or Thunderstorm into my rotation unless it's a very specific situation (Ony Whelps, some how running low on mana).

Typical rotation is FS, LvB, LB x 4 (depends on haste procs), Repeat LvB, LB x 4 until I need to refresh FS. Weave in Elemental Mastery for the insta cast and haste boost, but only after you've applied FS. If there does happen to be more than 1 mob, and the group will last more than 10 seconds, I'll lead out with CL rather than LB for additional damage.

I can usually pull 3.5k dps in Heroics and 5k+ dps fully raid buffed. My Elemental spec isn't entirely accurate right now as I've got 5/5 Reverb to run guildies through the Less-Rabi achievement.

Rolling with Tier 9 from Emblem of Triumphs, sporting the +hit trinket, I'm at 443. In hindsight I probably should have bought the ilvl 245 shoulders and gone with the T9 cap instead, since my mp5 is lacking, but that doesn't sort my hit problem.

I'm now looking at spending another 100 emblems on something that's basically not that much of a problem. I'm hoping I'll get some new bracers soon without hit rating. That would be nice.

Black Chitin Bracers is a great bracer that will last a long time. It doesn't take long at all to gather the mats to have someone make it for you.

As I know the hit cap is around %17 (minus the talent points which give you hit rating)

I have a level 80 elemental shaman,
I have 832 haste rating and %17 hit rating at the moment and I pull around 5K DPS in ICC 25 (its low due to my stubornnes of creating my own rotation instead of sticking to the well known original one :D )

I hope these stats can help you out.
You might also want to consider on items which do not give hit rating, and get the level 245 hit rating trinket with your Emblems of Triumph to be capped, and focus more on haste.

With the T9 provided by emblems, plus some ilvl 219/232 gear from Frozen Halls heroics, you easily get around 300 hit rating. I'm looking to substitute at least two or three items to get my hit rating down where I don't feel like I've wasted three talent points.

On a relevant note, my haste rating is absolutely horrible. Hopefully it'll get better with the ilvl 245 helmet, but I've got 220 or so now, unbuffed. I still put out 3-4k in raids (thanks to overcapped hit rating, lolz), but I could really use lower cast times.

I hit 340 and felt happy, until I read this thread again and remembered I'm no longer a Draenei. D'oh!
