Aggro issueFollow

I have a shadow priest. Don't have too much trouble with aggro-ing the mobs. But, sometimes I run with a holy priest, and she is a walking mob magnet. Her aggro is excruciatingly high. It's amazing! I'm wondering what I can suggest to her to do to reduce her aggro? She's got nearly all her talents in holy and a few in shadow.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You are going to have to be a little more clear than that. What are you doing? Wat level are you? By aggroing mobs, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean you are trying to run somewhere and mobs are attacking her along the way, or do you mean while you two are fighting a mob she is the one getting attacked rather than you. You're just going to have to explain it more if we are to be of any help.

One issue is level. At a lower level, you will find tanks that aren't as good at holding threat on multiple mobs. If she fires off a heal, it's not unusual to gain agro on the adds. That's where she should learn to fade. Realize adds will come, and fade as they approach. They will usually turn around and head back to the tank. Gaining agro isn't the end of the world. Not managing it and dieing is the problem.

Also, learn to bring adds back to the tank. Run near the tank and to the other side if you need to.

As you level, keep your eye out for trinkets or items that decrease threat on use. As a leveling priest, it can be handy to have a second fade that isn't on cooldown.

The next issue is timing. With agro, pre-shielding is better than shielding immediately as combat starts. Before 80, not shielding or healing at all until a second or two after the tank gains agro is even better. Be aware that big heals give big agro. Start off giving the tank a shield, PoM, and renew, then add bigger heals as needed. Keep renew up on the tank once combat begins. Basically, waiting longer to start healing puts more distance between the tank's threat and yours.

Finally, although we focus on meters too much, have her keep an eye on the threat meter. She should have several people above her at all times.

I'll do my best to explain better. I'm lvl 43 shadow, she's lvl 33 holy. Sometimes it's just us, sometimes we're with a 60+ paladin, sometimes in a group. We could be fighting, or we could just be minding our own business, or running through an area. Doesn't matter, mobs love her, ignore me. Sometimes she's healing when this happens, a lot of times she's not doing anything. She usually has her shield on.

I can usually get them off her, but she keeps pulling more in and all of a sudden it's mob scene. She's got terrible dps. Get's intense sometimes. I don't think she's ever tried fading, probably forgot about that spell. I'll remind her. I'll tell her about the trinkets, too, although aren't they usually a higher level? How do you have a second fade?

Her level is often the lowest one in the group.

Hope I've explained better...

This is your problem. How larger the difference between your level and the mobs', how larger the distance at which you aggro it. A level 40 player could stand close to a level 40 mob and not aggro it, whereas a level 30 player will aggro the mob from miles away. The only way to prevent this from happening is to either stop taking her to instances your level or to tell her to stay way behind you and the paladin.

She is body-pulling due to level. Each mob has a circle around it in regards to you. The higher the level difference, the larger the circle (this circle is invisible, unfortunately).

If both of you approach a mob together, the mob will react to the lower level toon first.

Lower level toons are like baby brothers, they need constant watching because they always attract trouble. Smiley: lol

Got it. Thank you. I love the baby brother analogy! Har har!

You don't really get a second fade, but at a little higher level, you can get some trinkets that on use will decrease your threat. Back when we were all running Karazan, threat for the healers was a much bigger problem.

Level 61 - Hypnotist's Watch
Level 68 - Jewel of Charismatic Mystique
Sporeggar Honored - Muck-Covered Drape
Keepers of Time Exalted - Timelapse Shard
Cenarion Circle Honored - Grace of Earth

On a similar note, while I was levelling a different toon (teacake isn't the only one who freelances Smiley: laugh), I was running through reg HoS when the big rock boss aggroed early and caused a wipe. None of us knew what the heck was going on and thought it was glitching or something.

My druid was lower level than the instance rating (she was around 74 or 75, iirc). The tank told me to hang to the right on the paths leading up to the boss. I was dubious at first, but sure enough, on closer inspection of the instance, I think I did body pull that boss from the adjacent room. I tip my hat to that tank for seeing the little nuance in the game.

I hope it is a designed level restrictor, if it was planned by the devs. I enjoy that type of "level restriction" much more so than a "You have to be this tall to enter the ride" type of restrictor.

As the question was answered well i will offer a suggestion that other hinted on.

Take her through instances and quests more her level she will level faster than you that way.At least give her a chance to catch up in level as taking her through higher levelled places she will never catch you up or learn anything as she will find it impossible to hit mobs if they are more than about 5 levels higher and i believe the experience gain is capped at about 5-7 levels above a character anyway.

I sometimes do run with lower players but usually refuse to help if the mobs are more than 5 levels higher as it is impossible to keep the mobs away from them .
