Emblem Gear - Non Plate (Holy)Follow

Quick question about emblem gear. As a holy pally I've obviously got gear that's specifically tuned to me - it's plate, no hit, no spirit, etc. Are these always recommended? Will people look at you sideways if you go with a cloth / mail / leather emblem piece?

The two I am specifically talking about are:

Helm of Inner Warmth (mail) vs Heaume of the Restless Watch (plate)

These are identical but the Helm has haste, and the Heaume has crit. I understand from these forums that you should shoot for a haste goal of 600ish, and I'm not there yet. According to wow-heroes I'm sitting at 44.28% holy spell crit.

And Meteor Chaser's Raiment (cloth) vs Chestplate of Unspoken Truths (plate)

Again, these are identical but the cloth has a great haste stat at the expense of 46 mp5 and a little less crit on the plate.

Your thoughts? I seem to remember EJ mentioning the Raiment so that seems like a good choice, but I see a whole ton of holy pallies wearing that Heaume, so I'm a little more iffy on that one.

The optimal distribution of stats for a Holy pala is haste/mp5 which is why you'll see a lot of high-end palas picking up mail/leather instead of a lot of the crit/mp5 pieces you see.

Haste is a very important stat for palas, if you go an FoL build it is absolutely essential to hit the haste soft cap of 676 but after that it's use it diminished. For those using a HL build, a lot keep stacking haste well above 700 and use INT as regen. In either case, Crit is not a great stat for throughput or regen.

Even into ICC some of the emblem and even tier gear has crit/mp5 which most tend to avoid unless it's a significant upgrade to their current pieces in the form of INT. There are a fair number of mail items which is considered Best in Slot in the current raid content.

Personally, I'd prefer to stick to plate since it's part of the class concept, but I will compromise for a really well-itemized piece of mail.

At a glance, 44% crit and sub-600 haste definitely needs a lot of work in the post-Illumination-nerf era. Depending on how fast you intend to get into content that challenges your raid, I'd worry much less about armor class than itemization. Don't discount some of the ilvl-232 drops from Frozen Halls - if it's perfectly itemized, it makes up for one ilvl gap (I count it equivalent to run-of-the-mill ilvl 245 gear).

My solution to the chest problem was the Ensorcelled Nerubian Breastplate, which on my server is half the cost it was a few months ago since the price crash for Crusader Orbs. As for the helm, if you can afford to think longer-term, don't forget that the T10 helm is the only Haste/mp5 tier piece.

Few things, the type of armor you wear does not matter one bit. There will always be people that think pallies should only wear plate, because thats the "class", but you should really aim for the best itemized piece for each slot regardless of the armor class. After all, armor (the stat) does not help you in the least.

Second, the T10 helm does not have Mp5, so im not sure if you confused it with something else...

As for your question regarding the helms you listed and the chests, i personally would not use either of the helms, i would get the T10helm and shoulders for your 2pc. The cloth chest you listed is a BiS until HMs, although there is a very comparable plate chest from Rotface 25m, so which ever is more easily obtainable for you i would aim for.

Helm of Inner Warmth is superior if you are strugling to reach around 700Haste.(bought it 2 days ago!!)
If you got already that amount of haste go for the other.
Same for chest plate. (Although I prefere Plate or Mail ..neva Cloth or Leather cause we need to stay alive....Plate usually offers litle more HP's and armor and yes in all fights we do take raid damage as fire or nature or shadow. Cause of the nature of the paladin healing we do need to be able to take some beating)
I usually beat those pallys that stick to plate ('just because we wear plate , so its better! ')on meters in boss fights cause simply they are slower than they think usually do not do any serious research of spec /forums /news/add ons. Some people though I must admit see mail on paldins and kick them out of RAids ... they dont see the big picture though. The big picture is that the gear is like a building and needs spesific items each time to fit in to spesific places. Just getting the same bricks wont do the job done unless you have all the bricks available (all plate + rings+ trinkets) to select from. That dream comes only in high end guilds. Since you are posting this...

Crit got nerfed, but it's pretty equivalent to mp5, dependant on how much HL vs FoL you are using (since it obviously scales better with HL). They tend to break stats up on gear as either Crit+mp5 or Mp5+Haste, you never get all three.

I'd put gear priority as follows

1.Haste/Mp5 (cause there aren't a lot of pieces that give you it!)
2.Haste/Crit
3.Mp5/Crit

Int stacking with HL spec I would aim for 800+ haste. For FoL spam (which you are 1k sp shy of being able to pull off so stay Int/HL) you get to 670ish then spread your stats out, so if I am at 680 haste and I have two items roughly same gear level one Haste/mp5 and one Mp5/Crit I would take Mp5/Crit since the haste above 680 is wasted itemization.

Note - Lose the FoL glyph get Beacon or Divinity. Get Pursuit of Justice in Ret tree or else get Tuskarrs (speed to feet works out as equivalent haste in less time moving, there was a good EJ post on it once back in the day). Weapon enchant, either +63sp or +30 int.
