So, here's my current spec.

So, I'm now at a crossroads. My options are to pick up some utility spells in Frost (basically just Frost Warding and Brain Freeze, as I barely use most of the abilities whose CDs are lowered, and wards take care of most magic damage). I could put one more into Imp. Ice Barrier, too.

But, honestly, things die super fast. I only even kite mobs in instances...

Should I just head down Arcane now? I wouldn't really see anything out of it for awhile. I rarely use Arcane Spells, and never have to drink in parties. I won't see any real benefit until I get Focus Magic. :/

Another option is to respec to Fire or Arcane (the latter at 64, I'd assume).

I've never seen much use for improving the ward spells in a PvE situation; Dampen Magic and Ice Barrier should provide you with plenty of protection. Like you said, things die super fast, so they are more or less not that critical. I'd wrap up with Frost by putting the final two talents in Brain Freeze, and then start down Arcane. Frost was fantastic for my mage until about 77 (I went to Icecrown early to start the dailies up), that was the only time that Arcane made a significant difference for solo content.

I can't speak for fire, but while Arcane is fun with the big booms, in the end though, I would stay frost due to the control it provides. Maybe you could experiment with Arcane at 70, but that was just my experience.

There's very little benefit to investing points into arcane for a frost/arcane build until you can get down to Focus magic. Even then, at level 71 when you are able to get it, it's only useful in groups. The glyph of eternal water decreases the value of capping out Cold as Ice and makes Enduring Winter pointless beyond 1 point. As a result you will be picking up some stuff in frost that is of questionable value but still better than the first five points you dump in Arcane.

At 70 my build would look like this.

At 71 you can respec into focus magic if you want, or just keep grinding until you can start putting points into TTW at level 76 which would eventually look like that.

Thanks for the thoughts. And, for the record, I LOVE Deep Freeze. At level 60, it's damage range is 1635-1938, and it has a 214.3% SP coefficient (which adds 797.196 damage for me).

I don't care if I can only use it on bosses. 5K is the upper limits of crit damage for my level 80 DK tank. LOVE IT.

[EDIT]

Highest so far is 8.3K at 64. :D
