Need help with castersFollow

#1 Jan 12 2010 at 9:44 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all,

I'm trying to do a quest in Ashenvale where I have to get a glowing Soul Gem. I have to kill a bunch of warlocks to get it. I don't have much of a problem against the casters with voidwalkers, I can root the voidwalker, kill the caster then kill the voidwalker.

The casters with imps is a different story. If I work on the caster the imp and caster together kills me about 50% of the time. If I work on the imp, same story. What am I doing wrong. This is in cat form.

I'm level 20. Is this a problem with warlocks or is it me.

You really shouldnt have a problem with those mobs. I really dont remember quite well what is and what is not avaiable for you at lvl 20, but you should be able to start with prowl, do some claws, then bear form, bash, heal if you need, back to bear form and swipe. I think thats what you can do at lvl 20.

Stupid questions really, but I have to ask....What level are the mobs you're fighting and what attacks are you using when you fight them?

At lvl 20 as a cat all you have I think is Claw and Rip, which is more than enough to take out things within 1-2 levels of you if you prowl up to them so they don't get the jump on you.

Take out the imp first as it hits hard and doesn't have much life then go for the caster.

The key here is to Stay in cat form as much as possible, only switching to caster form or bear form when you need heals or the extra armor for when you get more mobs than you intended.

The mobs are also about level 20 and I did use Claw and Rip and I stay in cat. I'll try the Prowl, haven't been using that.

This is my first Druid and I was doing great until I got to these guys :(

Thanks for the responses.

You can set yourself up with an advantage as well. Cast Regrowth and Rejuvenation on yourself, then drop into cat and blow em up. You'll get a little more effective health out of the ordeal that way.

I don't remember if bear has frenzied regen yet but that's another option down the road for similar situations.

Thought of a few other things too, which are basics anyway and will help in any situation.

If you're a veteran you know to have your armor as up to date as possible, and at these levels nothing will be amazing, but leather with agility and stam on it will be awesome for leveling in cat, a good 2H weapon with stats on it help also. Keeping potions and your heals close at hand will help out in the panic moments.

Spec won't have THAT big of an effect on your playstyle at this point, but obviously having the points in the right talents in the right tree helps a lot since every little bit helps at lower levels because our ******* is kind of small.

Prowl helps a lot on casters since you get get the drop on them before they can unload 2 spells on you and get you down to 60-70% before you've had much chance to touch them. I think you'll be surprised by how much effect it has.

Don't be afraid to pop off a Rejuv and a Regrowth and pop back into Cat form, the HoT's will negate the incoming damage after you cast them and the initial burst from Regrowth will usually take care of the damage you've taken up to that point if you pop it off early enough. I always use Regrowth first then Rejuv, and if necessary a Healing Touch, but that's only on the "oops" pulls or when I try to solo elite quests...which sometime works, sometimes doesn't, but working under pressure is how you learn to play the class better so I like to try new things every once and a while.

Hope this helps, Happy Hunting!

Thanks again for the responses.

I got some real good buys at the AH on "of the Monkey" stuff and a cheap enchantment scroll of agility that altogether raised my agility from 63 to 80.

I went back to those warlocks, cast Regrowth and Rejuvenation, Cat form, Prowl, killed the imp in one hit and the warlock in 3 or 4 hits and only lost
about one hundred health which came right back. Quite a difference Smiley: grin

Thanks again, you guys are great.

Depending on which trade skills you have, you also have a built in kitty (or bear) form heal if you chose herbalism. Unlike the druid spells that you have to drop animal form to use, the herbalism heal keeps you in animal form. It has a cooldown timer on it, but for those occasions where you are still in combat and need some health to weather the storm, it is a very nice tool to have. Enjoy the awesomeness that is druid!
