With my hunter dinged 80 recently I have been wrestling my way into heroics asap and found it pretty easy, pulling around 1.8k dps overall 2k boss the first hc or two I did. From there on things only went up and now I'm at 4.5k normal boss-topscore with an 3k overall. But I've been messing around with rotations and stuff and found that the normal one was obvious the best. But I seemed to suck at trash pulls, with a dps barely touching 2k at best on 3-4mob group pulls. Now I've said to myself 'I'ma just AoE from the start like all those mages do' and my dps rose up a bit.
When trying that, I stumbled on the idea of using traps more. Well, explosive trap to be exact. Using it gave me a BLAST. But I didn't find anything about this on any hunter forums, that's what annoyed me. So I did some research.
Numbers from a 30 sec fight on 4 mobs
-Volley + ET (including run time from ranged position to melee, +-4 sec with AotC):
128833 damage, 4326.2 dps*
-Volley only (without any run time, volleying from sec 0)
102595 damage, 3286.2 dps
ET seems to be pretty win on this situation, with a roughly 5/4 damage increase. Can it be that I just missed out on it on forums? Or is this truly overlooked? Please let me know if I missed out on a 'trend' of trapping.
OH, and when you use ET, you have a 100% chance of getting lock and load, increasing dps the moment a mob dies and you switch to single target. The tooltip of lock and load is wrong. (This is obviously tested numerous times by me)
*4326.2dps is slightly higher than 128833/30sec because recount doesn't calculate with the time I'm running, the damage done is still right
