Zeroing in on 80Follow

#1 Jan 11 2010 at 10:43 PM Rating: Good
Right now I'm a fresh 77, I'm pretty happy cruising around Icecrown, unlocking dailies, etc. Within 2 weeks time I should hit level 80, which means zOMG T9 and such.

Now, I want to be a good little mage when I hit 80 and not suck in Heroics. Therefore, I need to know what unbuffed stats I should aim for to hold my own in a heroic.

Spellpower, Mana, Crit, and Hit, preferably if I could have two sets of stats as well; one fore Arcane, one without.

Oh boy,

For arcane probably about as close to 2k spellpower as you can get, 15-17% crit, 250-300+ haste, close to hit cap for arcane (which is only like the low 200s), and I guess close to 20k mana. Don't forget rep enchants are BoA (shoulder from SoH and helm from KT if you already have the rep on a main).

There should be enough BoEs to get you started if you want to spend the cash on it. Otherwise it will be a slow grind up. But after listening to my guildies talk about mages doing 600dps in their FoS heroic today I almost started crying when I armoried them.

Don't be like this mage.

If you want to take a look at my mage I'm in T9 etc but you can start subtracting amounts for ilvl and such and probably get around those numbers.

Thanks Anobix.

Last night I dinged 80, and I already have one piece of 80 gear; I'm getting a little concerned though and somewhat intriguied. I'm not pulling top DPS (nor do I expect to given my gear), but I do find it interesting that with my "LOL DEAD" macro (basically Arcane Power, Trinket, Berserking, Icy Veins followed up by Mirror Image) I can top the chart in a boss fight.

Anyway, here's what I'm working with.

Armory

Any suggestions are welcome. I have a little beef with this mage in my guild, saying the reason I switched to Death Knight was because I didn't know how to play a mage during BC. He just runs his mouth a lot to be honest, but claiming he topped the DPS charts during BC (which I have proof stating otherwise...) and the insult to me makes me really want to show him up. His DPS isn't bad, but I really do want to shut him up for good.

Are you also pvping with that gear? If not I see no reason for the int/stam gem or the spellpower/stam leg enchant/meta gem. Also, gemming for int is pretty much out.

Red = spellpower
Yellow (if socket bonus is good) = hit [at low gear levels when you aren't even close to cap], or spellpower/haste (orange gem)
Blue = (if the socket bonus is good) = spellpower/spirit. If not, spellpower (after getting the two blues/purples for the meta gem)

As for your meta gem, it should be a chaotic skyflare diamond, no real exceptions (at least from a PvE standpoint, no idea about PvP).

No PvP; I got it because I was more or less clueless as far as what gems to take.

the best thing to do is run anything you can pug, heroics especially, you can get a whole t9 set from heroics a good ring and some people like the int trinket..not myself but to each his own, eve nif you dont get the int trinket you can still get the sundial which is very good and id go for the abyssal rune from reg toc 84 haste and procs like the sundial, having both of those is a great combo because they can both proc at the same time which is almost 1200 sp for 10 sec. the nex tthing you should do is ony as much as possible too mediocre off hand in there a nice sword and a good helm i saw that you have the t9 helm already so maybe not the ony helm but a very nice sword none the less oh and the quest for the head has a nice ring too, you probly shouldnt do the new heroics yet since your dps probly isnt nearly good enough for them yet but just farm badges all day long, you can also farm for the merlins robe and bejeweled bracers both very very good. if you've got some good guildies id try and get in a heroic PoS acutally they have a couple of really nice belts. heroic toc (5 man of course) has a decent weapon still the dagger is a good place to start.
