I just hit 58 and have leveled as shadow. However, I was wondering if leveling as disc is viable. If so I could learn to heal in the new 5 man dungeon system and not have to dual spec. I would rather save up so that I can get a fast flyer when I hit 68. I solo a lot and shadow is fine for that. I would appreciate any input.

Thanks

Start out with something like this if you want to be able to solo decently, as well, then go deeper into Disc. If you plan on only leveling inside dungeons from now on, just check out this thread.

I leveled as holy, so there is certainly no reason you couldn't level as disc. You simply may not be able to kill things quite as fast as with shadow.

Yes. What you want is a Smite spec. Lots of talk about this right here on page 1, here and here.

Ive made a priest this week, and levelled him all the way as Disc. I have BoA items which helps, but after putting first 3 points into Shadow for Spirit Tap, I have had no problems with mana or any sort of downtime. I bought 20 drinks at level 25 to help with downtime, I am now level 35 and I used 7 drinks so far...
With improved Shields you will be taking no damage, you will have fantastic mana longevity, and with Reflective Shields you will be killing things fairly quickly.

One thing to note however is that reflective shields and surge of light do not mix well.
If you get a crit from RS while you are casting a smite it just either completely ignores your SoL proc or makes the Smite cost no mana but no instant cast smite.

That's because you're the only person in the world who has a spec that involves both. Smiley: tongue

I actually altered the Smite Spec to not include reflective shields because the damage is rather low.
And in instances it won't help you dps anyway.

It also allows you to pick up both 3/3 rapture and 2/2 aspiration while still keeping Spirit Tap and SoL.
