disc and random heroic dpsFollow

I pulled over 700 dps last night in a random heroic, I was very excited. I was healing (disc specced), of course, but I'd never really tried to dps whilst doing the healing thing before. Anyone else ever try to DPS and heal at the same time? It makes me wonder if I could DPS in discipline without changing specs and not be embarrassed. I know I can dual spec and all, but I had a third toon win the bronze drake so now I have to start saving money again.

You could do some mediocre dps. The embarrassment comes when the group wipes because you were doing dps and got behind in healing.

I wouldn't try to fill a dps spot as disc. Your numbers are simply not going to reflect the level of your gear. If I was going to do this, I'd at least get some Triumph gear with hit on it, then make your way to the practice dummies and see how you do. If it's aweful, the gear will be handy for that shadow spec. I know I went back and did a quick pass through the Hodir dailies as shadow with hit gear, and the mobs went down much faster than when I do them as disc in my healing set.

I do it frequently. Aside from burst, priest DPS is pointless as anything but shadow (or AOE), though. My holy healing spec (in hit gear) gets me 1300, 1400 at most, and my disc spec (also in hit gear) gets me 1100-1200 at most. Even when I PI myself I can't even hit the 1500 mark. Sometimes it makes me kind of sad that even tanks can get up to 3K DPS in their tanking spec by just changing gear - I'd like to be able to DPS heroics as well on my priest. I can understand it though - if disc and holy priests could get 2-3K DPS we'd be even more overpowered in arenas than we already are.

I spent some quality time with a targeting dummy and was disappointed to see that I was getting around 1200 dps. There just aren't that many tools in the toolbox for laying down the damage.

How very strange. I just posted in the Accomplishment thread about this.

I have gone through runs strictly as DPS in Disc spec and have always been disappointed with the results. Like others have posted, 1.2-1.6 DPS is all I can coax out of it. Single target damage is just plain bad. Smiley: glare
