Addons for Warlocks? (w/bonus questions)Follow

#1 Jan 04 2010 at 2:11 PM Rating: Good
I am looking for addons that will help me out on my Horde Warlock's DPS and spell priorities...

As of today, he is specced 0/12/59 and 18/53/0. Here is his armory.

I am currently using the Destruction spec, and I am about to start doing the LFG tool with him to get him better gear. I can honestly say that I have no clue what my average DPS is at right now, but I think the last L.80 dungeon (a couple months back) run I was at a dismal 1500-1900dps. I am not about to start gemming and enchanting every upgrade I get from some random pre-3.2 instance.

I have been reading a little bit on spell priority and I will be doing something along the lines of: Lifetap > CoE/CoD > Immo > Conflag > Chaos Bolt > Incinerate SPAM > Then recast Chaos Bolt and Conflag when their cooldowns are up. (CoE = Curse of the Elements... NOT Curse of Exhaustion like I thought at first...)
I read that you can throw other spells into the mix if you are at a point where you can't cast anything... but I see that as wasting mana (Corruption mostly) although I see that that could be upping my DPS if I did.

Looking for addons mainly for Warlocks... I already have the major addons because of my other characters.

I have EventAlert already, but I am unsure if that will tell me when the Lifetap buff is getting ready to end with BIG LETTERS AND FLASHING LIGHTS!!! If you get what I mean...

Also, it has been awhile since I have actively played my Warlock so anything you can tell me about spell procs and whatnot would be greatly appreciated.

I always try to look at Elitistjerks.com before asking here, but I always get upset when I go there and see theorycrafting and simulated spreadsheets that do not take in account for human error... I want to know what a normal person can do and NOT what a simulation program can output... or what people think could be done just by looking at what you should be doing while wearing set pieces of certain gear.
I have also staggered into the Warlock's Den (www.wowmb.net) and that is where I picked up a little about what glyphs to use and spell priority and whatnot...

I had a whole list of things I needed to ask, but a guildie started asking me if he should throw down 12k for a Battered Hilt and I got side-tracked...

Thanks for any replies and feel free to add anything else in that you think might help me out.

...and I am sure I'll have more questions...

Necrosis is pretty handy for a multi-functional go-to addon; it manages your shards (limits to x quantity, all excess is destroyed), remind you about soulstone usage, has buttons to truncate your various sets of "can only use one of these at a time" spells (demons and curses, mainly, though I only use it for demons), and can even provide spell timers if you want (I turned these off, would rather use dotimer).

Hmm, I just ran Heroic Culling of Stratholme and at the end my DPS was 1300.... I felt bad because everyone else was at 2100-3000.

I was using the spell priority that I listed above. Using CoE a lot more than CoD because even bosses were being killed before CoD would hit.

I think the only "bad" thing I did (well... the only bad thing that I knew of....) was I would cast Immolate either way before it was to end... or way after it had ended...

I seriously think I could spam Shadowbolt and do more dps than what I was doing there...

Earlier in the day, I finished Heroic Occulus at about 2400dps but I think that is skewed because of the Drake mount damage... maybe. Everyone else in the H-Occ group was on par with me though... so maybe H-CoS just had too much of me running around between fights and messing up my groove.

I use to think I was a good Warlock, but seeing me play now I feel like I am just rolling my face on the keyboard to attack.

I like the Demonology spec, and seeing my problems with Destruction makes me want to go back to Demo and wallow in my self pity... but do so while using the LFG to gear up.

Does Affliction have a rotation or is it spell priority? I think my biggest downfall is not paying attention when DoTs are falling off and forgetting to refresh them. From what I remember isn't there a way to use a spell as Affliction and it will refresh the timers on DoTs? Maybe it was a glyph that did it... Haunt was the spell, I think.

In your opinions, would I do better as an Affliction spec from what I have told you here or should I just go back to Demo? Smiley: bowdown

Also... if you think my biggest problem with dps is my gear/enchants/gems then let me know, because i would hate to be doing something right and think I am doing it wrong when it can be fixed with just getting better gear.

Thanks. Smiley: frown

Edit in: I just played around with the L.80 and Heroic target dummies... On both dummies I went from full health/mana down to where I had the warning that I have low health... 15%-20% health... On the L.80 one I was at 1700dps at the end, and on the Heroic one I was at 1500-1600dps at the end.

This made me start to think I might not have the right demon out.... I have been using the Imp... which demon should I be using?

Your destro spec looks fine, except that I'd move a point from either Destructive Reach or Improved Soul Leech and max out your Demonic Aegis. Your glyphs look fine.

As a destro lock, you should be using the imp as your pet. That is why you are specced into Demonic Power and Empowered Imp.

What's holding back your dps? Your gear, frankly. You have 5 pieces of crafted PvP gear. Your only piece of gear with sockets is ungemmed, and most of your gear has no enchants on it. Your staff is from a quest in Borean Tundra that you can get at level 68!

Basically, I think you are probably doing all you can given your current state of gear. Because of what you are wearing you only have 1200 sp, way too low hit, low haste and crit. Do some research and look for some easy upgrades for your gear, either through Northrend quests, Northrend faction rep rewards, or Northrend heroic drops. Save up your Emblems of Triumph and buy better gear and then gem and enchant it (I wouldn't bother enchanting the gear you have now since you should replace it soon, but do gem and enchant your legs). Be sure to wear faction tabards when you run heroics to gain rep through the championing system. Focus on Kirin Tor and Wyrmrest Accord first; luckily you are exalted with Sons of Hodir for your shoulder enchant. You are an enchanter so enchant your rings. You are a tailor so put Lightweave Embroidery on your cloak. Work on your gear and you'll get there.

FYI, in heroic CoS, just use Rain of Fire on mobs and AoE. They go down so fast nowadays that single targeting will cost you dps.

Very awesome! Thanks for the information... Now I don't feel as bad as I did yesterday.

Now I am off to try for some better gear!

Will try to report back on the outcome.

Thanks again.

Speaking for the add on question, I found a little gem in Destruction for Dummies ( I assume it would work for other specs as well ). I stumbled on it while browsing Curse one day. It isn't fancy, just tells you what spells are a priority, and constantly reminds you to Lifetap ( I need this on occasion, I'm old ). I learned a considerable amount about Warlocks here, and on EJ. I really started enjoying Destruction after I learned that your imp is the key; love him, feed him, dance with him, whatever floats your boat. Good luck, it took me awhile to learn, but in that process, I have really had some fun.

There might be some duplicates here; I'm just looking through my addon list and noting which ones I found especially useful as a Warlock:

Broker_SoulJar (LDB plug-in for managing soul stones)

Broker_SoulShards (LDB plug-in for managing soul shards, lets you set a max cap at which any more you gain will be destroyed)

Broker_TimeToDie
(LDB plug-in that estimates fight durations, useful to plan "execute" phases)

BuffEnough (Checks to see if you are buffed with every possible buff your party/raid can give you, also works solo to remind you of flasks, fel armor, buff food, etc)

ButtonTimers (One of the stand-alone debuff timers I've been using for a long time)

Cork (A small addon by Tekkub that is kinda like BuffEnough, but only for stuff you can cast on yourself, reminds you to summon minion, cast soul link if applicable, cast fel armor, make/apply weapon stones and more. I also like the fact that you can keybind something like "Shift - Mousewheel UP" which lets you just slide the mousewheel up, automatically casting everything on yourself in succession, including making/applying weapon stones.)

Elkano's BuffBars (Really customizable buff/debuff manager, lets you filter and set multiple "groups" of buffs and debuffs, including whitelists and blacklists. For a simpler version, try Simple Buff Bars)

GTFO (Nice for any ranged DPS class...all it does is sound an audible alarm if you're standing in a place you shouldn't be during boss fights, like a puddle of goo or almost everything else for every encounter...nice lightweight alternative to DBM)

InlineAura (Especially useful if you're using a button addon like Dominoes or PitBull; it places a colored border on your buttons for spells that have been cast and are awaiting a countdown, like when you cast Corruption, Immolate or Curse of Agony, a little border will appear around the button to signify it's still active on the target)

LDB-Threat (A super-small threat meter if you don't like using Omen; can be really small, on a LDB bar or in a corner somewhere, depending on how you set it up with your LDB launcher)

OmniCC (Adds numeric countdown timers to your buttons, handy for tracking debuffs, similar in function to Inline Aura, but shows a numeric timer as opposed to just a colored border)

OPie (Good "launcher" addon for any class with a lot of spells, especially good for Mages, Warlocks, Druids, etc.... Use keybinds to open "ring menus" containing categories like Demons, Stones, Mounts, Food, etc...Kinda like Autobar, but I like this one better.)

Quartz (Really configurable castbar addon; includes a bunch of "modules" that you can either use or not use, some addons can be replaced by these modules. For example, it has its own "debuff bar timer" module, similar to what ButtonTimers does.)

SimpleThreatMeter (A REALLY cool and lightweight threat meter that's an alternative to Omen. Displays a simple bar and percentage representing your threat against target, decently configurable. I've found this to be good enough for a raiding Warlock, so I use it instead of Omen, which saves some memory.)

......I left a few out for brevity's sake; these are the most Warlock-beneficial addons I had in my directory. But if you're mainly worried about stuff like rotations, look into addons like DestructionForDummies, as someone mentioned...there are a few of those kinds of addons out there, as well as "packages" like Forte that include multiple addons in one.
