Corruptor or Mutilation?Follow

I'm in the process of gearing up my feral Druid for tanking and am having trouble deciding between the Idol of the Corruptor and the Idol of Mutilation. Despite the higher item level, Rawr is telling me that the Corruptor idol is (pretty considerably) better than the Mutilation idol. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything - I probably wouldn't trade that small dodge increase for the additional mitigation/threat from agility but I wanted to ask more experienced druids if this is a wise choice. From what I've read they're both pretty much 100% uptime.

Honestly, Rawr is wrong. While both idols have an equally consistent and reliable rate of proccing, the Idol of Mutilation's 200 dodge amounts to 3.02% dodge while Idol of the Corruptor only gives 2.34% dodge. Sure Corruptor's agility proc also grants other stats like critical strike (1.95%) which could be argued to be of great benefit to bear tanking for proccing Savage Defense but I find it to be a negligible gain. Overall I'd say go with Mutilation.

I'd probably go with the critical strike over .7% dodge, honestly. Threat is just as important as mitigation, but keep in mind that dodge is useless on magic or unavoidable damage, while that crit rating will be useful always.

Crit improves Savage Defense, and Rawr accounts for that. It's for that reason that Rawr rates Corruptor ahead.

The new frost badge one is better than either anyway so it's kind of moot.

Corruptor for tanking and Mutilation for DPS.

While the dodge is higher from Mutilation the Agility from the Corruptor gives more other stats to more than make up for the ~ -1% difference in dodge.

True but since it is only +20 Agility at full force there are far better things to spend frost badges on before getting the new Idol.

It doesn't mention a cooldown or anything, though. Is it 100% uptime?

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't bother with Lacerate on group pulls? Smiley: grin

To be honest, I wish they'd give us an idol that worked off of Maul. Maul is being hit always whereas Lacerate, Swipe and Mangle depend on the pull. I rarely use Lacerate on 2+ pulls. Rarely use Mangle on 4+ pulls. Never use Swipe on single targets.

Paladins get a relic that procs off of their Holy Shield (which is in their rotation regardless of pull size). Death Knights get a relic that procs off of Rune Strike which most Death Knight tanks have macroed into their attacks.

On massive pulls I rarely ever use Mangle, let alone enough to keep the proc up. Which is ironic since you'd think the value of the idol goes up the bigger the pull is. I always have Maul activated, regardless of what I'm tanking, so it would make more sense to have the idol proc from that. Otherwise I'd get more from a straight +30 sta/agi ranged weapon.

This is one of the draws of the Mutilation idol to be honest - it procs off of two abilites, at least one of which I'm likely to be using on any given pull. I usually only use mangle/lacerate on single targets. It seems like there's some difference of opinion here too so I'll probably end up getting both. The frost one is indeed sexy but since I don't get the chance to raid terribly often I'll probably be spending those emblems on other upgrades first.

I don't, at least not habitually. I'll sometimes throw it in every other swipe for giggles. But I also don't Mangle on group pulls so I wouldn't get that buff, either.

I don't think too hard about trash optimization, myself. If I am personally having to tank more than 2 mobs (and heroics don't count), then odds are they aren't hitting hard enough for that agility to really matter that much, and I'm going to need every GCD to get threat on every target anyway to keep it from raeping the aoe dps.
