...would a fresh 80 (with no real AH upgrades) Fury Warrior do if JUST auto-attacking?

Because I had one in my group today that was doing 600 DpS. That's right. SIX HUNDRED. And I called him on it (and I NEVER do that, but c'mon!)

Just trying to figure out how his damage output could be so abysmal. So I was wondering what you'd expect the A-Att damage of a Fury war who just hit 80 would be. I'm pretty sure he was using the De-Raged Waraxe and a green axe. Can't remember the name, so I can't give the rest of his stats.

I just have trouble imagining him using ANY abilities, and still staying under 1K. Or do Wars just have awful DpS until they hit a certain gear level.

Oh, and his spec had 54 points in Fury, with the rest split pretty equally between Protection/Arms. I don't know how close that is to the standard spec (he had all tier-1 Arms talents, which seemed odd to me as an outsider).

Just wondering how fair it was for me to leave that group...

(I left after it took about 20 minutes to do the UP gauntlet, that was just a contributing factor).

As a new fury warrior myself. I would have to say this toon was probably being boxed. I am sure alot of people have not picked up on this fact. But I have experienced a few pug on the new random system doing this. The owner will switch over to that toon and say something to fool the other group members and continue on as if nothing was wrong in hopes of blind ignorance to get thru. Even if this toon had all mediocre greens for gear. There is no exscuse for 600 dps in a fight. As I said I am new to fury tanking and wow myself. But, this noob knows better than that.

Well. Fury has some requirements to be met before it is raid viable dps. Soft capping hit for example. But 600 is on the really low end for dps for a fresh 80 in greens and blues. Just auto attacking, I'd guess 600 is fair. But using Whirlwind only, you'd probably double that number (self buffing crits are increased).

Without deep wounds though, which is fairly standard for any DPS spec for warrior, and half the tank specs have it too. I'd say the spec was awful. Nothing in prot is worth it (I can see how someone could make an OT spec that does DPS). While incite is amazing, your losing out on points in arms that do more overall. And with 54 points in fury, you can't take all tier 1 of arms and get 3/3 incite... something like (10/54/7?)

I'd probably question their ability to perform too.

But I question a lot of choices DPSers have been making lately...

I have no clue if leaving was the right thing to do. But it probably made you less stressed in the end.

Remember that fury is the worst spec in the game when you are a fresh 80. With no real hit, expertise or crit to speak of, you'll be rage starved all the time. I specced my fresh 80 warrior fury and was averaging about 800 dps in Gundrak. Lots of AoE trash, but i simply had no rage to do anything. Switched to Arms and averaged over 2k. Fury is incredibly gear dependant and it's a really bad idea to spec it if you are in leveling blues and greens.

Quite low dps :D, as a fully prot I usually made about 1,2 - 1,5 k DPS in heroic (gearscore about 3500).

But to be honest I tried to be dps fury on normal northrend's instances and I was below 1k dps with green and blue gear. Now I changed to arms and try to collect some proper 80 level gear :D.
