Budding warrior tank.Follow

So I've been working on my little warrior tank for a while now, and he's really coming along. I feel almost ready to tackle ToC 10. I still have 8 lvl 200 epics though, which I would be very happy to get rid of.

However, I'm really bad at finding gear to upgrade. Most of the time I ask my guildies, other times in heroics its just like a "woohoo!" moment. So far, I've decided to save up my frost emblems for a new trinket(since the triumph one screams situational to me), and probably get the ring and ranged weapon next.

I also know nothing of how much hit/expertise I should have, nor if I should be gemming it at all, or if upgrades with more mitigation but less hit/expertise. Need a little help here.

263 Hit (8%), 26 expertise. More expertise is fine. I don't think Warriors have anything that uses spell hit, so don't go above that.

I don't know much about Warriors, but that gear is basically the best you'll get outside of more emblems/Ulduar 10 I think. And you don't need more to tank ToC.

However, you need to upgrade your gems.

If you don't need the Def, change them to Stamina (You only NEED Defense to 540).

Anything with Parry you are using to get a socket bonus should be dodge or a threat stat (Parry has a much lower return). Regemming (using epic gems) should give you another 35-45 stamina at least.

It would be a good idea to switch your boot enchant to Tuskarr's Vitality--The 8% run speed boost is way more beneficial than people give it credit for.

Other than that, you should switch to the proper Head and Shoulder enchants--you need Argent Crusade and Sons of Hodir rep to exalted on at least one toon on your realm (Alliance or Horde) to buy them for your tank. They're the Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector and Greater Inscription of the Pinnacle. Pinnacle will let you drop more defense gems, switching them to stam. That gain, plus the 20 dodge, is a better bonus overall than 22 stam. Protector gives more stam than your current one, and also provides 20 Def. I THINK that means you can get rid of all Def gems. You may need, like, 1 stam/def gem.

Other than that, there isn't really any GEAR you need to start ToC. I would advise grabbing the Triumph trinket, though. The Alchemist's stone is lackluster next to it.

Awesome. Thanks a ton!

For the trinket from triumph emblems, http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=47735;source=live is what you get. It seems so lackluster and really just another "Oh ****!" button I don't really need. Shield Wall + Last Stand + Gift of the Naaru + Frenzied Regen + pot is usually enough to keep me up through anything, so long as I don't die in <3 seconds. If someone can show me how good it is(I don't know how much mitigation armor gives), I'd be more than happy to listen.

Thank you for the advice on gems. I always knew I could upgrade, and I really only started putting epic gems in stuff after I got all the gear from ToC reg. I didn't know about gemming dodge over parry either, so that's nice to know. I'm also working on my rep with Argent Crusade atm through championing. Sons of Hodir will come next, of course, after I actually do the starting quests with them. (barely touched IC quests and have done 0 in Storm Peaks.)

One last question though, what do you mean by gemming for threat? Hit? Expertise? STR? I've always gone for more avoidance and made up for my bad gear(well, when it was baaaaad) and threat in heroics against great DPS by getting anxious, being shifty, and cursing at the no-holds-barred DPS clothies. There's a better way? :P

I don't personally advise gemming for threat (yes, those three stats, and maybe ArP--dunno), but it is a better idea than gemming for Parry.

And Armor is one of the best stats in the game for a tank. It's just harder to get. Explaining why would be really annoying, I just suggest you read this.

And PLEASE do not underestimate CDs, especially as you are about to enter harder content. The ability to have something up almost all the time is priceless.

The triumph trinket is much better, imo.

If you HAVE to have a health trinket, Frost emblems are the only way to get a good one atm, unless you are willing to level JC. This one is slightly better than what you use now, but still not great. It is what I'm using while I farm for the BH (so many runs and it has NEVER dropped).

Thought I'd necro this instead of starting a new thread.

Picked up onyxia's head the other day my first time killing her ever. I'm quite happy about it and of the tanking trinket I now own.

So I decided to go on a spree and got some dodge/stam gems, but now I'm stuck on what to get for yellow sockets. I asked in trade to see if I could find someone knowledgeable, but all I got were idiots who would rather put a 30 stam gem in their helmet than sacrifice 3 stamina, get the socket bonus, and increase their avoidance/threat stats.

So, what do I gem in yellow sockets? My hit sucks, but I'm not sure how much I need more.

Well, you just answered your own question then. 10 Hit and 15 Stam. Green gem.
