I recently picked my Warrior back up. I figured it'll be nice to have a tank in the pocket if the guild needs one for Alt ToC or even Alt ICC down the road.
I must have ran about 70 instances in the 3 days lol. I generally mark skull and X. I have all the marks keybinded from back in BC days where CC was manditory to clear it(4-6 mobs, I use to be able to do in about a second). So marking 2 mobs takes about a half second. I usually do it while running to the mob.
Anyway, after many great fun runs, I get a Old Kingdom random pug. I start off with my usual 'howdy'. Mark the 1st two mobs (skull/x) and pull. Well, after that pull I get a "DON'T MARK the mobs!!, our dps outgears this place" I say "it takes a half second for me to mark them, why?" Anyway, I get the "noob tanks mark, no need to mark anymore, etc etc etc".
Well that put me in a foul mood. I kept marking skull/x... meanwhile, I notice I'm getting less and less heals. I literally had to stop and eat mage food after a few trash pulls. My 1st thought was heals d/c'ed... nope, everyone else is full health, and healer is jumping around all over while I'm eating for health. Well I pull the 2nd boss. Got one heal, died to flame spheres (which in heroic is usually healed through). After that I ran back in, and dropped group.
So finally my question. Do you guys mark the mobs anymore? Last time I really got serious on tanking it was in BC. Gruul/KZ/SSC. All the outland instances required marking for CC in order to clear them pretty much lol.
I guess I mark to avoid the classic "WTF Tank!!!" chat when the DPS that dies because he's attacking a mob that's being off tanked (mainly speaking of the new instances where the mobs hit like trucks). Skull and x at least give me a head start on threat for if that happens on the off mobs lol.
