Lately I've been playing alts in battlegrounds/Wintergrasp a bit more often than usual, because during this festive season of peace and good will, I sometimes want a healing vacation where I don't have to be responsible for anyone else and can just run around doing cruel things to gnomes.*

So I said to myself, self, you don't need an alt to do cruel things to gnomes! You've got a DPS tree right here!

I haven't dusted off Shadow since I leveled my first priest in BC. I have since then learned the joys of Mind Sear, because really Mind Sear is for everyone. But other than that, I'm clueless, and I therefore expect you to stop what you're doing right this minute and satisfy my curiosity on several points.

First, our Shadow FAQ looks pretty sad and outdated. Why is this? I demand that Mothra write a new one. And don't give me "I'm busy" this and "I have a life that" either, gawd, it's almost like you're not thinking of me at all.

Given the FAQ situation, I'll have to go outside Allakhazam and into the dark scary world to brush up on shadowy goodness. I've heard shadowpriest.com is a good spot. Any other recommendations? I don't need to know the ins and outs of raiding or in-depth theorycrafting or anything, this is just something to fool around with on occasion for PVP or solo activities. I've inflicted myself as a DPSer on PVE groups before. I believe those folks are due for release from the asylum in another six months or so.

Off the top of my head and based purely on guesses, I came up with this as a possible shadow PVP spec. Overall thoughts? How is mana efficiency as shadow? Do I want to give up something else to get that last point into Focused Mind?

What about glyphs? The change of VE from debuff to buff makes it way nicer for PVP, but is that still enough healing? Should I consider the PW:S or Dispel glyph for an extra boost?

And does Twisted Faith mean I care about the Spirit PVP gear, or do I want to stick with the Crit stuff? Right now I've got 4 Mooncloth anyway, and I'd have to enjoy this an awful lot to grind out a whole new set.

*Not you, Santa!

Hmm, seems to me I recall someone saying:

I actually haven't pvp'd shadow, like evah- so I can't help you there. I have never written a guide, like evah- so no dice there either.

I would point out that dispel does pop you out of shadow, though. Glyphing for it seems counter-productive.

*edit* I am soooo wrong. Dispel does not pop you out of Shadowform. Sorry for misinformation.

Yah, that's me with the paper bag and all that.Smiley: lol Seems like a good time to learn, in this pre-Cataclysm lull!

I didn't realize Dispel was a Holy spell. Always thought it was Disc, like Shield, and you could use it in Shadowform.

Edit: Yes, you can indeed use Dispel and MD while in Shadowform. Smiley: smile

I fixed the build already. Not maxing out Improved Mind Blast in the first build was st00pid.

I was having fun until I saw my place on the damage meter. Smiley: eek Boy, do I suck at DPS!

Still seems like it would be a good thing for me to learn, not only because it's a fun change, but because without any way to efficiently heal myself I can't be lazy about mobility and that should improve my skills in that area overall.

Edit two: I predict the new Vampiric Embrace gets nerfed in the next 48 hours. Smiley: lol

Out of all the sites I've visited for all the classes I've spent serious time playing, I like shadowpriest.com the best. I can't really explain why, maybe it's the cheerfully depressing purple color.

On a serious note, I have spent more Shadow Priest time on sp.com than on any other site including EJ. You just have to explore it a little bit since it has many interesting forums. Check out the MODs section, including the Macros forum in there. Also, a lot of folks like to take a look at the builds used by others raiding with their class (hopefully someone in a very successful guild); take a look at the "List of Raiding Shadow Priests" thread.

I know EJ are such elitist jerks because they want to keep the nonsense out of the threads. Well, sp.com is super user-friendly and they don't have any of the nonsense in their threads. You can post a question and get a thoughtful answer without worrying that your post is going to get deleted by a moderator.

Here's a question:what do you do in PVP where you get the rare player that comes in with as much shadow Protection as possible, greatly dropping your ability to do damage? I know when I was playing on my hunter I got tired of warlocks and shadowpriests, esp the fear ability,so I came in with around 300 shadow resistance,in PVP to reduce,if not cut out altogether the annoying spam dots on target and fear them while there life drains away, but being BM helps with that as well, somewhat.

You... die?

You really shouldn't expect to win from an opponent that is geared specifically to beat your class+spec combination. It's an odd form of self-induced rock-paper-scissors as people in shadow protection gear will get their asses handed to them by anything non-spriest or warlock.
