I know we have kinda touched on this subject before... I went through trying to find the post but had no luck. I'm hoping more people have tried Vuhdo since then anyway.

What I'm looking to know is if either addon has an edge over the other. If you found one does a better job over the other during raids.

My new guild wants to throw me to the wolves in ToGC and next week (hopefully) Icecrown. They also want me to drop Vuhdo for Grid+Clique. I do not feel comfortable a) learning to heal with a new team, b) healing the difficult content (I've never done ToGC), and c) heal brand new content with raidframes I am not used to. It is my most important addon...

The reason they give me for switching: You can "add" new boss debuffs/abilities into grid so they show up on your frames... Well, I have never noticed this issue with Vuhdo, even in brand new content.

Hopefully someone can help me make a decision. Most likely I will stay with Vuhdo until I feel comfortable with my guildies and the new content, then I might try to switch over.

You can add custom spells in Vuhdo as well. Go to the General Tab, Debuffs, Custom, enter the debuff and click Save. You can tell it to show an icon, change the bar color, do animation, stacks, and show a timer. I also recommend you check the Colors tab. Adjust the Debuffs colors to be what you like, making the Custom debuff easily recognizable. For a priest, add Weakend Soul to the list for testing the colors on yourself. Just shield yourself to test. When done testing, uncheck the other effects except Icon and Timer for Weakened Soul. That way you will see the icon, but won't show the custom debuff color when it is active.

Both Vuhdo and Grid+Clique do an excellent job.

Vuhdo is an all-in-one solution. As such, it is easier to get working the way you want, right out of the box. The only difficulty is that for some reason the configuration items seem scattered all over the place (hence the reason you may not have known that you can easily define a custom debuff). Remembering to do a save on your changed dual-spec config is important, or you will think it isn't working when it forgets the bindings you previously made. I used grid for years, but I am currently a Vuhdo user. I like Vuhdo.

Grid + Clique + Grid-center-icons + Grid-corner-icons + Grid-whatever-else-you-want.... lets you build a very customizable, powerful raidframe. Grid allows you to have more control over indicator appearance and placement, but is more sensitive to changing versions of the components you choose. Keep a backup of working Grid addon directories, in case an update causes something to no longer display.

Honestly, you can be a great healer with Vuhdo or Grid. As a matter of fact, you can be a great healer with other raid frames as well. I took issue in the past with Healbot, because Power Word Shield is not accurately represented when it is used up early. As a discipline priest, this knocked Healbot off my list.

If your guild wants you to switch from Vuhdo, it is probably because they haven't spent much time using it. Grid is more customizable than Vuhdo. However, Vuhdo certainly can do the job. What can I say, Vuhdo and Grid are both winners.

Thank you :)

It was my thought too that they had just never used Vuhdo before and wanted me to use what they know and love. I kept reading all the lengthy directions on how to set Grid up to do certain things and I kept saying, "But Vuhdo does that already..." If Vuhdo can do everything grid can, more or less, I'll stick with it. Why download multiple addons to do what one addon can do?

I already have the WS debuff, renew, PWS, PoM, aggro symbols, and the color tints for players who are afflicted with magic or disease. I will be tweaking it a bit to see if I can unclutter the boxes a bit.

My only pet peeve with Vuhdo is when I switch specs, I have to open it up and apply the proper spells. I consider this just a minor hassle.

With Vuhdo, after applying the proper spells for your 2nd spec, be sure to put a check in the box for spec 2 and name it the same as the spec, THEN CLICK SAVE and overwrite it. Also save when you change your primary spec. I have 2 specs and they automatically change fine. If I don't save and overwrite when I change one, then I have trouble.

If you mean they switch but aren't active, I notice it is a bit funky. I usually reload the ui when things aren't quite right.

LoL, alright well that would do it. I've named my specs "H Amall", "D Amall", "S Amall"... and so on for my other priest "Mele".

I have the spec 1 and spec 2 checked off for each spec on Amall, but when I swap specs in game it doesn't change in Vuhdo, one I select it and hit "Apply" I am all set. But if it is looking for "Holy" or "Discipline" then that would be the issue.

As a side note, I was checking curse to see if Vuhdo would be ready to go for Icecrown tonight and found this note from the author explaining the name of the addon:

Quote:
I recently read in several forum threads that some - mostly english speaking - people find the name silly and a phonetical nonsense. Maybe. The name is derived from my girlfriends heal shammy named "Vuh" (this addon is dedicated to her). This name again is derived from "Popol Vuh", the mayan "book of knowledge". So "Vuh-Do" is for what she's doing with her toon... and I'm no way going to change it :)

aww :) Let's hope they don't have a bad break up >.<
