Build check = solo FeralFollow

#1 Dec 03 2009 at 1:33 PM Rating: Decent
hi....just thinking it would be a good time for a build evaluation overral. I know I could add glyphs, so ignore the fact I dont have them full yet.... I pretty much run solo, questing mainly, and will be probably running paired with another Feral druid more often in the future. Any help input/guidance greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am kind of a noob due to not much grouping experience...so excuse me if I ask for clarification on some of your comments.

You have a lot of talents that don't really help you much, and you have missed a few almost mandatory talents.

For questing, Thick Hide, Protector of the Pack and Natural Reaction aren't doing much since you'll be in cat form most of the time, and you'll scarcely notice their impact on the rare occasion you go into bear form anyway. Brutal Impact and Primal Tenacity aren't particularly useful either unless you spend a lot of time in PvP.

On the other hand: Survival Instincts is very useful and will likely save your skin quite a lot; Heart of the Wild gives survival in bear form, damage in cat form and even increases your mana pool; Naturalist and Omen of Clarity in the Restoration tree are great damage boosters and are worth getting even before Berserk.

Here is an example of a cleaner, PvE focused levelling build. It gives a pretty optimal balance between damage and survival, and is in my opinion the 'best' feral build for your level.

....

Thick Hide works in all forms. BI is also great for leveling due to the longer stun times.

Do something like this.

Finish up Naturalist, get OoC then do what ever since you'll respec at 80 anyway into a proper DPS, tank or hybrid spec.

Yes, TH works in all forms but provides minimal benefits for questing, although I'll grant that for levelling, TH is superior to FI. However, BI is pointless unless you're doing the whole Prowl->Pounce set-up all the time, which is slow and clumsy once you get Mangle.

Berserk is nice but Naturalist and OoC are nicer, and the 6 points in the penultimate feral tier are almost useless for levelling purposes.

KotJ is powerful talent and helps energy starvation far more than Imp Mangle.

I am in both forms probably 50-50....Cat form for singles, and bear for multiples -- although I do find myself pulling multiples a lot more than singles lately. I am working areas a couple levels below my own level (just getting to be "mainly" in outlands), plus like I said, doing more solo instance runs - mainly to gather some greens to DE and farming for my alts, another reason for bear and multi-pulls (I LOVE BERSERK)....definately one of the other reasons of posing this question was Ooc, that itself probably warrants a respec.

Thanks for the replies, I had been doing alot of forum reading on this, and your other posts in the past(Horsemouth) pretty much answered me, but I wanted to get the opinion more level / solo specific.

Oh yeah, one more question...what about infected wounds...Doesnt it help with runners (slowing down movement speeds?).....or is the answer: "with our build you wont have runners" :)

By the time you get IW runners isn't really so much an issue, Blizzard more or less stopped using them after you leave Azeroth.

When I leveled my druid I was told (and did) that I should work my way down to Mangle as quickly as possible. Also pick up imp LotP so you never have to drink again. Then go to resto and get down to Omen (which should be level 63). After that go back and finish off feral down to berserk. Then use the rest of the points to pick up some more talents in feral.

That's what worked for me. When I level a toon I don't look for damage as much as I do survivability and sustainability. For me being able to kill 10 mobs without eating/drinking is better then being able to blow up 3 really fast but having down time afterward.

I snagged Berserk the day the new trees went in to effect.

I mainly AoE beared mobs down.

Berserk is wonderful for this style.
