Why did you choose the Rogue class?Follow

Simple question really. Besides just being a good damager dealer what made you choose the class? What do you think about Rogue lore? Do you feel the current class fitting the original lore? What race Rogue do you feel most logical from best to worse?

How many lore Rogue's do you know and where would you feel a new epic lore story would fit now and in Cataclysm?

What cool gimmicks/skill/attacks would you like for the class?

I choose a Rogue because of stealth and the whole outlaw thing. I've done some shady stuff in the past, yet kept it honorable IRL, i play my Rogue the same way. Helping people who get ambushed wether it is a fellow Hordy or an Ally who gets raped by NPC's. I choose an Orc becuase i wanted the biggest character possible. If it wasn't for the Rogue class i would have been a Tauren Warrior. Fits my own physique the best; i'm almost 2 meters and 100kg.

My main in FFXI was a ninja and ranger. A hunter and rogue were the closest things to them. I would like to see them add 2hr big cooldowns that can only be used in PVE like in FFXI. The ninja self blowup without losing exp was awesome.

I only just started playing my Rogue after years of playing other classes. In the past I was very much interested in PvE and raiding. The last few months I've been really into BG's and Arena...and well, Rogues are pains in the asses there so I thought I'd play one. I'm only level 25 right now, but have 4 pieces of BoA gear and really enjoying myself.

I first started my rogue because I wanted to :

Chop chop chop and slice slice slice with my swords. And go sneaky, sneaky, stab stab. Then when I got high enough in level, Evasion, Blade Flurry and Adren Rush became my love. So I was able to chop chop, slice slice, sneaky sneaky and stab stab more than before. I loved it.

Am I drunk? No... But I sure feel like getting there with all of this work I have to do, that's for sure.

Because I got tired of getting my *** kicked by them in BGs 80% of the time. Granted, this was back in Vanilla when rogues were super easy compared to now.

I want a toon to farm stuff.

Seemed that a class that could run away easily made sense.

Also being able to gank people while farming has a nice ring to it.

I chose a rogue for 3 reasons:

1. I like strategic planning and tactical evaluation (aka ganking)

2. For the element of surprise (aka ganking)

3. And lastly i chose the rogue because it reduces my chance to be the the one getting ganked :)

Hmm...

1) I was tired of my priest and wanted something completely new. I had tried warrior and found the class a little bit too boring, gave rogue a go and loved the 1-20 levels which ultimately caused me to continue playing the class.

2) What I like about PvP are those situations where you manage to outplay an enemy player - not because your gear is better, not because you can 3-shot him, not because you can stunlock him until he dies, but because you make creative use of your abilities in a way your enemy did not foresee/expect. If there is one class that can do this, it is probably the rogue (and perhaps the druid as well, seeing as they literally have a spell of every type utility that exists). Shadowstepping after jumping off higher ground, shadowstep/kicking a healer and returning to your original target, gouge+LOS+restealth, stunlocking one target and fighting the other one - stuff like that. Every class seems to have his "kick *** moves", but the rogue seems to be the best class to pull off impossible kills/escapes with.

3) Stealth on a RP server. Aside from the posibilities of playing like a dungeon master or somehow involving stealth into an in character plot, being able to sneak up on ERPers is golden. Aside from the stealth, Troll rogues have always been fairly non-existant even though they have a good (and original) basis for a character.

I think that's pretty much it. All in all I originally rolled with the class because the rogue was one of my highest level characters, but I stuck with the class because of various awesome reasons. Or at least... until WOTLK struck and PvP turned into a brutal virtual version of Darwin's "3-shot or be 3-shot" theory.

Made a rogue because my very first toon was a druid... The limitations of cat form (especially the lack of CC in PvE and Vanish in PvP) made me try the rogue thing. This was back when cat dps was mediocre at best, and CC one of the most important things you'd look for when doing instances.

Plus I really wanted a pure dps toon to resist the temptation of being everyone's ***** all the time. Usually if a class I play can tank or heal I can't help but do just that...

1)I don't know what appeals to me about the class. In final fantasy XI, my main was samurai, but there's not really anything like that in WoW. I actually did a hunter main first, then paladin, then rogue. All are 80 now, but the hunter basically never gets played. I think the rogue probably fits my personality the best though.

As far as lore goes, there's not really a *ton* of rogue specific lore for WoW, at least not compared to say, paladins or shamans. Instead, there's a couple separate rogue organizations, but rogues aren't automatically part of any organization, they're more loners. Like warriors, I see rogues as covering a very wide range of character types, from the brutish assassin to the street smart scoundrel. It includes the stealthy thieves and perhaps some swashbuckling bravado too. because of that, I guess there's not really a difficulty fitting lore, rogues just come in all shapes and sizes.

My character, being human, doesn't really have a choice: he's a muscular guy. I like wielding daggers in assassination, but I love the ninja storm in combat spec. I wish subtlety was viable, I love shadowstep too.

2) There's tons of WoW characters that could be considered rogues. Stormwind has the SI:7 which is basically all rogues. Ironforge has their hidden circle group. The Horde has the deathstalkers and the shattered hand. There's also ravenholdt which any rogue will probably visit at sometime. As for individuals off the top of my head, there's Vancleef and Garona, and Maiev.

3) As for what 'cool gimicks' I'd like: I made a post about it a while back. i think one thing that is holding rogues back a bit is that we rely so much on stunlock. Stunlock is very powerful so we don't get a lot of other things. I wouldn't mind seeing us move away from that. Get rid of cheap shot, so you have to open from stealth with a damage ability. Cheap shot is probably one of the more frustrating rogue stuns because you don't see it coming often, there's not much to prevent it, it just happens from nowhere.

Instead, I'd focus rogues more on stealth: Give vanish two changes: 1) 30 second cooldown (without cheap shot it's not as powerful offsensively, and if opponents know you're there they have pretty easy ways of destealthing you anyways) and 2) it doesn't drop your 'in combat' status. The main reason for this is so that you can use it more often in PvE to re-enter stealth, get behind the mob and open again without the mob fleeing and regenning health. Maybe only keep in combat for 5 seconds or some such.

I think kidney shot is ok because you have to build up combo points to use it, and those combo points aren't then going to damage. It has a cooldown and without cheap shot, you can't build the points while the person is stunned effectively getting a double stunlock. People have a chance to fight a bit before they get hit with it. All the other 'take away control' abilities break on damage: i.e. blind and gouge.

Then, add another rogue ability, call it something like 'escape', that does a vanish effect and an effect like hunter's disengage, and put it on a longer cooldown.

I think this would make rogues more fun for both the opponents and the rogues.

Though I seem to have a thousand alts, rogue was my first toon.

Why did I choose rogue? Single target dps.

Rogue lore? Was good, sucks now that we have aoe.

Race? Gnomes, crafty little dudes, fit into small places and are hard to see.

Gimmick I would like to see? The ability to stick to the back of a mob without having to move to counter trying to guess where the wandering tank is heading.

I chose it for the stealth. It just made things easier when I can bypass everything to get where I need to go instead of fighting everything on the way.
