So, I'm finally leveling a hunter...Follow

That's right, after years of mocking single-button mashing, fail traps and stealing my rogue gear, I'm leveling a hunter and thought I'd share this fun little story.

After accepting an invite I take off on a taxi heading ultimately to Scarlet Monastery. When I get to the stone the enhance shammy opens up in /party about how ghost sabers are fail and with a guild tag like mine I should know that wolves are the only way to go, etc, etc. He even /lol'd at Wilson, my ghost kitty. This made me sad, but we head in all the same.

{insert instance run which is oddly quiet after the first pull}

After final loot and shards I toggle open recount and ask "/p What was that about wolves?"

Doing double someone's damage solves most debates. =)

So, hello hunter community and thanks for the info and links that got me off to a solid start. Cheers!

I like my monkey. I named him Darwin. >.>

Though Thunderstomp not being exclusive made him much less attractive.

And I also usually go cats for DpS. I hate the way old world wolves look.

Wolves are cuddly and full of win.

Cat + Nelf is awesome, though.

The solution here is to get a demon wolf from Zul'drak.

Or one of the shattered hand armored wolves from Hellfire Ramparts.

Oh, I agree (and the GH wolves are good, too).

I just don't like how Azerothian wolves look.

How can you not like the old wolf model? I much prefer it to the skinny back alley model they're using in Northrend.

Of course, that model is a worg model which is an ugly wolf in my opinion. The brown wolves from Westfall are my favorites. Best wolf in the game.

Mazra gets +10 cool rating.

Only the white wolf model > the brown wolf model imo.

Since I now get a +10 in cool rating, I decided to move my Hunter over and dust it off. So, I call out my pet and of course it was a brown Westfall wolf. Smiley: waycool

I noticed I was running with a Survival build and I quickly found out that it's absolute crap for leveling purposes. I pull aggro off the pet in less than the duration of Explosive Shot.

Time to move some funds over, again. I've already spent 4k gold on respecs, gear and such for alts this week. Christ.

you can level SV easily, you'll just have to accept that your pet isn't going to do any tanking.
So I'd probably pick up a spider to level with (Name it Kaolian :3) for Web and Roar of Recovery.

I have arachnophobia so I'm not going to roll with a spider, though Roar of Recovery seems excellent for my needs.

Hmn, I'll have to get dual-spec once I gather a bit more gold.

A ravager might be fun if you want a non-spider cunning pet... the stun is handy.

Pff, you think you can end a derail that easily?

I did a wee bit of questing while BM spec'd and I really didn't feel it. Maybe because my pet is level 66 and I'm level 70, but I kept running out of mana (I'm too used to playing classes that require button mashing) and had no ways to regenerate it except the horribly inefficient Viper aspect.

From what I can remember, Hunters have horrible mana issues in instances as well, don't they? I always see them at low mana when I'm on my Druid. The Viper aspect seems like a horrible solution.

Anyway, I respecced Survival and I'm now flying to WPL to get me one of them spider thingies. I swear to god I'll either like it, or crap my pants and go back to my Druid. Just glad I'm not doing Bestial Wrath with one of those eight-legged freaks.

You got 4 choices spider wise Maz, not all available at your lvl atm, but just a heads up, different models make different noises and run different ways.

These skins I kind of like myself, they do look rather deadly compared to other skins, but just be aware that they make a rather creepy hissy screechy sounds when they attack, maybe best to avoid if you don’t dig spiders all that much.

The "Fuzzy Ones" have always been my favourite, but there is one thing that makes me really sad about them, thier running animation. Once you have them dashing, their little legs buzz so fast and unnaturally that it just doesn't look quite right imo. Still love the fuzz though.

The common spiders are the ones I feel have the better animation and the quieter of the bunch, there are allot of colour choices too so you could always pick a pretty colour that doesn't freak you out too much ^.^ (the blue one is my current, so pretty)
http://www.wow-petopia.com/html/mobs/mob_glasswebspider.html

The last one is the bone spiders, looks a bit creepy but they unless you pick one up during the events at Argent Vanguard when they are lvl 76-77, you have to wait til 80 to get the next one. As the only lvl 80 spider in game atm, they are becoming more and more common as of late however.

I love my spider and wouldn't pvp with out her, use the web, love the web!

I went out and got me a Plague Lurker from Western Plaguelands. I'm quite happy with the coloring, actually, and having a spider pet isn't as bad as I'd imagined. Still, the web being on a 40-second cooldown is pretty shoddy since I don't spend 40 seconds killing my targets. I wish it had an AOE web sometimes as well.

I've got to be honest, though. The Hunter class seems very, um, inefficient. I run low on mana faster than my level 36 Mage. I lose more health than my Mage as well. My auto-shots hit for around 400 and crit for 1k or so, but I have to spend ammo on it and I have to stand still. I guess I've played my Warlock too much because I keep running around, tagging mobs with Serpent Sting and Explosive Shot, only to find myself OOM and taking a beating from a bunch of mobs.

You could also try MM.
Because 6% mana back for each mob you kill (plus 20% back for each rapid fire) is pretty nice.
And most stuff should die with Steady > Serpent > Chimera > Aimed and then maybe a steady or two.

Second this.

I leveled my troll as MM and I don't know how I ever managed to level as BM before (and those first 40 levels on my troll hunter when I was SV... I just don't like to think about it). There are still some quests in Northrend that just plain suck as a Hunter, but they're a little less painful when you're not relying on your pet to tank, and MM is definitely more mana efficient.

Also, Mazra, you might want to try dropping into Viper every two-three mobs when you get really low and letting your mana fill up all the way, instead of starting a fight low on mana and then switching when you run out. With you doing half damage, your pet should be okay to hold threat while you fill up, and you'll at least be avoiding time spent sitting around doing nothing but drinking.

Thanks! I never even considered MM. It seems like it's been left out in the cold for so long - almost every Hunter I come across is SV these days.

Definitely going to try that.

Doesn't stop Feyras, Theo or Mental.

Why should it stop you?
