Question about DPS lvl 72Follow

Let me first start out by saying I'm a relatively new player to WoW and I'm mostly still learning at this point. However I did what I would call my first high level raid last night and was surprised at just how much higher the level 80's DPS was compared to mine.

The area was Zul'jin and of the 9 that came 5 were 80 and they parsed ranging from 2500 dps to just higher than mine at 1200 dps, me coming in at 977 and accounting for 9.3% of the overall damage. Highest guy did 25% right by himself.

I've lurked here since I picked up DK and read more posts/threads than I care to admit in that time but I have to know; is there really "that" big a difference in just 8 levels?

The whole time I was there I felt useless, is just shy of 1k dps a good output? What should I be shooting for? I imagine it still may be a while before I get to 80 and keep wondering if I'm doing well at all.

My talent distribution is: Death Knight Talents. My gear is all quest reward through leveling.

Yes.

The gear itemization-to-performance curve gets much steeper at 80 as well.

Keep leveling, don't stress the small stuff.

EDIT : My preferred blood build, I didn't bother with the more obvious solo talents (rune tap, mark, vendetta) while leveling, didn't need 'em. But you might consider them.

Even if you didn't update your gear at all, you SHOULD see a large DpS increase. 8 talent points, max-rank abilities, better Horn of Winter, better player-to-mob level ratio.

I bet you'd notice a large difference in your DpS parses just looking backwards 8 levels now. Well, that might be a little skewed. Most of the DK gear is still pretty kickass at 64.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Comparing your dps & mine, seems just about right for our lvl.

Looked at your spec, I went a diff route in the Blood tree, DC auto casts & all.

anyways, good luck bud

edit:

I replied mainly because the Op is in the same boat/thought as me. Self questioning, How do I stand atm while lvling? Am I doing it right, so far in my learning/growing/lvling? 9/10 the question is answered with/ .. it doesn't matter or "lol.. get to 80".

I try to research & spend alot of time reading & trolling. I think the Op falls into the same boat as me on such :)

I'd prefer to know the ends & outs instead of being a ******.

I can't say I've ever even thought about DpS while leveling. If things were dying fast enough, I was happy.

True,

But,

If you didn't question your dps while lvling(dung run).. i call =/shrug (you know you did). Anyone & everyone always checks recount, don't say you didn't. While in the 70-80 range some are trying to make sure there thinking & thought on a rotation to do there best while lvling & after is correct & ..... is learned. (that doesn't include tea cup mouth breathers that don't reasearch.)

The Op asked if 900dps was right for his lvl.. at being 72, myself(71) I'd say about right.

I didn't install Recount until 80. And I don't generally load it now (though I'm a tank. I'll just ask someone else if I'm curious what my DpS was).

I just honestly didn't care. Leveling is leveling. The Death Knight class isn't exactly complicated. Rotations are very easy to work out. Well, they've gotten more complicated for some specs, but blood is still VERY straight forward.
