Frost AoE questingFollow

I'm sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I've looked anywhere I thought it may have been and couldn't find anything. So here goes.

So I always thought it would be fun to grind my way to cap with a frost mage, but with all the changes it's just as fast to quest as it is to grind, plus you get items and rep with quests. So after switching to the standard frost AoE grinding build I began to work on my grinding skills. I started this around level 30, using mana shield. But I never stopped questing, whenever I need to kill things, or clear an area to grab an item I would use the blizzard kiting routine.

Now most people are going to say, well of course this will work. If it works on ten, why wouldn't it work on 2-3 at a time. But what I want to bring up is the misconception of this being a much slower way to quest. I've leveled as a mage before, as fire and as a frostbolt spec. Both were fine, but the reason I hadn't tried this blizz spec before is because all posts I'd ever read was that this was just for AoE because it would be too slow to simply quest with. So this post is for those who are afraid it will be slower but still want to give it a try.

The main thing you have to pay attention to is your mana pool. Once you're good at this kiting routine you wont need a whole lot of stamina, you'll get good at pulling without running straight through your mob, thus taking less damage. So you can focus more on getting items with int. Even at the lower levels of this build, at least after ice barrier, plus the effects of mage armor, I was easily able to cast upwards of 6 blizzards, or 3 pulls without running out of mana. That plus evocation really equals almost no downtown.

I feel like most people don't utilize the cds of their frost spec. If you have frostbite, which you should if you're using frostbolt, then you're not going to need ice block to bring back up your nova, you're not going to need cold snap to bring back up something. The only time your going to need icy veins is when you're either going against a mob a couple levels higher or are taking a lot of hits, which is not something we like anyway. This spec however uses them regularly. Casters and ranged are not a problem at all. If there are some in a group you pull everyone to them, nova, bring ice barrier back up and start blizzing, when they pop that, is when icy veins is needed. No problem, you get the full use of blizzard, the caster isn't going to be doing enough damage to kill you outright, but if they are that's when you pop cold snap, which only has a 6.4 min cooldown, not too bad, and bring your barrier back up.

Another thing people may feel is an issue is the level of your mobs. Most of the time you'd be targeting mobs under your level. But really once you have it down you can take almost any mob. The only I have trouble with are the ones that are red. And if the thing you're worried about is a mob resisting, just remember, you have 4, FOUR, frost novas at your disposal. Assuming your cds are up, which they will be most of the time, even when using them a lot.

My favorite part about this build is that I'm not just killing a mob at a time. If I needed to pull and kill one mob, but kite 5 of them, that's still a ton of extra exp. Which over time really adds up.

I really hope this helps someone. It really is for people who want to play a mage, but don't like the other ways to do it, or like myself like AoE but don't know other ways to use it. Thanks for your time, and please help me refine this by giving your input.

50 I went around un'goro, almost any area with dinosaurs is nice. They aren't clustered incredibly well but you can usually get like 4 or 5 a pull. Western Plaguelands is also ok. The farms with undeads are good as is sorrow hill. Sorrow hill I've seen on some AoE guides before and you can get four pulls, all with no casters, but you might have to wait a little while before they all respawn. Whereas the farms have some casters but you can get like three pulls a farm, then move on to the next farm and by the time you're ready to start over everything is spawned again. After these places I would shoot for killing timbermaw up in Felwood, again some ranged mobs but nothing that cant be avoided with smart pulling, or like I said in my last post, just pull everything to them and use your cds wisely. After that head to winterspring, again you can find a lot of non-ranged mobs outside of everlook. These are all places you can be doing lots of quests or at least rep while grinding.
