Elemental Shammy QueryFollow

I have just dinged 80 today. Enh shammy for levelling and no I want to respec to elemental. From what I have read, I need to cap hit rating 1st followed by spell power.

I have to the best of my knowledge searched the web but not able to find any articles on how to start gearing up. I am currently preparing for heroics.

My question is can a elemental shammy wear clothes that comes with good hit rating and spell power. I am struggling here as I am new to sharman. I was hoping you could give me some advice on gearing up this guy for dps.

Are the ToC drops good for starters? The main stat i am looking for now is more towards hit rating and spell power. With enough rating and spell power, then I can attempt to run heroics.

I would be much obliged if you could kindly advice on the process of gearing this guy for elemental dps. Currently dual specced on ehnc and restro.

Currently the guild wants me to gear towards dps and off spec to heals after gearing for dps.

Would appreciate all the help i can get.

Thank you

I have an 80 Elemental Shammy too. From my experience, there are a few good transition pieces from both TOC and H TOC. If I were in your position, I would get a group to farm TOC several times and pick up the pieces from there. Ideally, you should also be doing H TOC every day because there are several useful pieces there. There are shoulders w/ 60 hit as I recall, and H TOC is the easiest place to get a decent spellpower weapon (Mariel's Sorrow or Spectral Kris).

You should also do H VH to get Mark of the War Prisoner, which is a blue trinket with 73 hit rating and use to increase spellpower by a bunch. This will help you manage some decent hit rating while you gear up.

Other than that you should farm other heroics for conquest marks. If you have trouble finding a spellpower shield, you may have to buy the shield from the emblem of heroism vendor by trading in conquest -> valor -> heroism.

Thank you so much for your kind assistance. However to run heroics I still need to get a decent amount of hit rating and spell power. Don't think grps will allow me to run heroics without a decent amount of hit rating and spell power.

So I am thinking of actually turning to cloth armor with hit and spell power in normal instances and then move up to heroics.

So is it ok to wear cloth armor till i can get the right mail gears in heroics. Yes I am thinking of running ToC and moving to heroics ToC.

Thank You

Cloth and Leather pieces are fine but try and avoid anything with spirit and also try and avoid taking these pieces from the classes that cannot wear mail as it can lead to arguments. Maybe you can ask your guild to help farm normal ToC one night to get some gear. Failing that you could stick to enhancement while you run the heroics and just let everyone know beforehand that you would like to switch to elemental and therefore want to roll on caster gear.

Don't worry about hit rating in heroics. You only have a 5% chance to miss in the first place since bosses are level 82 only. More than half of that (3%) is covered through talents (Elemental Precision). Add another percent to that if you're Draenei. If you're still concerned, use some buff food to cover the rest.

There is also no difference in boss level between normal level 80 dungeons and heroic modes, so it really doesn't matter where you go. In fact, you'll have a hard time finding groups for normal mode instances other than ToC.

In between cloth, mail, leather items, and accessories, you can completely gear up a caster shaman by running ToC normal and heroic exclusively. The only items that will have to come from elsewhere are:

Totem - Get that from the Grizzly Hills PvP daylies. One hour "work" killing NPCs at most.
Off-Hand - The Inscription OH works well enough. On my server it runs for about 150 gold. Perfect until you get a shield.
Ring(s) - Don't spend lots of gold on epics. Crafted Runed Mana Band (Pvp Ring)works well enough for heroics and isn't even unique.
2nd Trinket - use whatever you can get your hands on.

Seriously, don't worry about heroics, and have nobody intimidate you with DPS numbers that seem completely out of reach. A year ago it was NORMAL to be around 1500-2000 dps and get things done. That people now do twice as much is not your fault as a fresh 80, and shouldn't concern you at all.

EDIT:

I am HEALING heroics as an offspec with gear that's very much exclusively from drops - and most of it from ToC. The only items I spent badges on so far (since everything went towards my Enhancement main spec) are the shield and the Chain Heal totem which I am switching with the LHW one depending on our group setup. If you look at unbuffed numbers from the armory, you'll see that I might very well play elemental with this and still do decent damage.

(trying to stay logged out with caster gear for a day or 2 to give you a chance to look)

I would like to take the time to thank all of you for your advice and encouragement in my gearing issues.
I have decided to run ToC with my guild members for gears.

I just want o gear this toon for heroics so that I can grab the badages. Yes I wouldn;t be worried about my dps now but if i am able to dish out a fair amount of dps would be good.

I remember the time when I ran my DK with a grp for gears and got kicked off the grp cos my dps wasn;t good enough. So yea a fear of not being able to dps is a concern but thanks to your advice i am taking a different appoarch. My GM is good to tell me that he would help me to get me the gears i need.

This is actually my alt but i want to learn to dps as a shammy. My main is priest and I love heals. Thats why I dual specced this toon so that I could learn to heal the shammy way.

Once again thank you very much.

Cheers and have a good gaming week :)
