Need help on some gear -.-Follow

#1 Nov 14 2009 at 10:49 PM Rating: Good
So I totally enjoy DW Frost DPS.
So much that I've given up on all my other toons just to give all attention to my DK.

Last few days I've got/bought some updates, and DPS went up. yay!

But . . . there are a few slots that I'm not sure what I should aim for.

Me (also in sig).

My main question(s) is on what and where for my:

Shoulders
Wrists
Rings
Trinkets (I really have no idea what I should be using in these 2 slots..really don't).
Sigil

If i can buy them/have them crafted - cool.
If they take Emblems, I just spent a good handful so I'll have to run Heroics again for a bit to get enough.

I don't fell my DPS is good enough to try to get in 10mans (sold 2k. Last few days I've been able to get to 2.9k- but that is everything working like one could hope) for gear. But I really don't know what it takes for 10mans, maybe I can...

Thanks a ton ^-^

I don't know of any specific pieces, but you should probably focus on trying to get things with hit on them. 6% is still low for DW.

You also want to try and get a much, much slower off-hand.

Unbreakable Armor is a pretty awesome DpS talent, from what I understand. It isn't included in most Frost DW specs because of problems with the simulation tools, not because it isn't worth it. 10% Strength for 20 seconds every minute. That's a 33% uptime.

As for a sigil, you'll want one that boosts Oblit damage or the one that boosts Strength.

Quote:
Stat weights for 0/53/18 are:
AttackPower 1
Strength 2.68
Agility 1.42
CritRating 1.84
HasteRating 1.26
ArmorPenetrationRating 1.58
ExpertiseRating 2.97
BeforeMeleeHitCap<8% 3.52
SpellHitRating 0.99
WeaponDPS 6.77
WeaponSpeed 258.06
After spell hit cap 0.80
2T8 158.33
4T8 115
2T9 120
4T9 410

Stat weights for your spec.

I suggest looking at the rep items from the 5 NR factions for upgrades, first and foremost.

I'm having issues finding a shoulder item as well. I've done ToC and ToC-H a couple of times now, but not a single plate shoulder item.

Seems like you have to get into Naxx, gather emblems for T7 shoulders or get some honor and go with a PvP thing.

Majestic Silversmith Shoulderplates and Aledar's Battlestar, both would be great upgrades and both are from ToC HC.

A Darkmoon Card (Greatness or Death) would be an improvement over your Spellpower trinket. The Emblem of Triumph trinket would also be nice for the huge Hit Rating boost.

Tier 8.5 Chest and Helm from Emblems of Conquest.

There will be a level 213 ring from Emblems of Valor, or you could buy one of the crafted rings, fairly expensive but decent.

You could probably get away with the easier 10 man raids like Naxx and Sarth, but not much of the gear would be an upgrade for you.

The sword, after weeks of trying to get it, finally dropped. ATM it is an upgrade to what I had (I don't have the gold to drop another 2-3k for another Tank o Terror).

I'm not to far of from being able to get the PvP ones. Or a PvP one (Gladiator?). Just did't want to waste honor/marks if there was something else I should know about.

I'll check into some of this.

Thanks.

Edit: I know I'm still under Hit Cap. But 6% is better than the 2% I was at a few days ago >.>
Still working on getting to cap ^-^b

You want the oblit sigil. That will increase your dps by so much. When I first started as DW I was using the FS one and the second I made the switch I noticed a dps increase since my oblits solo will crit for upwords 12k.

You can get crafted bracers.

Rings, try to get the emblem of triumph ring. It has hit on it, and you cannot go wrong with hit.

Your trinkets are fine.

Shoulders... Try for the t9 if you can. I know it takes awhile but its the shortest grind for tier gear.

Also, you do not want a fast OH. A slower OH will do more damage for your oblits.

This is true. However, a fast off hand with actual DpS stats would still be an upgrade for you. A slow off-hand with DpS stats, even if a much lower ilvl, will probably boost your DpS. The only good stats on your current off hand are the expertise and the hit gem. Do you have a Horseman's Baleful Blade? You could MH that and put the tankard in your off hand.

Or, if you have the cash/mats, you could MH this.

I'm not an advocate of low ilvl one handers. Personally I've always felt frost was really really gear dependant and to an extent it is. I can push about 4k on a dummy and I'm sitting in some pretty good gear on my dk. But you have to start somewhere, amirite?

Frost dps is much like that of a boomkin (which is why I probably use dw...) it's heavily rng related to your KM procs.

No offense, that seems stupid to me. His "high ilvl" weapon is a tanking wep, way faster than he wants, and only gives 62 AP. There's no reason to choose an awful purple i219 weapon over a spec-appropriate blue i200 one like I linked, except that you don't want to spend the money. But you run a high risk of being labeled a scrub in a group.

I just plugged in both weapons with the EJ stat weights. The OP's tanking sword got 1706.45. The Titansteel Bonecrusher (with a lower ilvl) got 1843.452.

Maybe it isn't a huge boost, but it is better. And groups will take you more seriously.

[EDIT]

If you only run with guildies, I guess you could keep the tanking sword, though.

Just a reminder: weapon speed is a byproduct of the itemization mechanics. What you're looking for is the highest median damage in both hands that you have a available.

As to hit: you are unlikely to get really close to the melee hit cap as DW frost. Generally speaking most frost dks are concerned with the spell hit cap (for HB, etc) which is reasonable to hit with currently available gear.

And for shoulders just collect the badgers and get the t9.

typo edit
