Dual Spec questions. Shadow/HolyFollow

#1 Nov 11 2009 at 8:56 AM Rating: Good
Hi there. I'm doing the long haul with a priest I rolled.. currently at 38.. preying for 80 heh. Anyways I'm just curious if its possible to wear the same gear for both shadow and holy dual spec once I hit 80.

Meaning.. can I have one set of gear and switch between the two specs seamlessly?

Or is there one distinct type of armor for shadow and then other for holy? (cause that would stink)

Thanks in advance.

You're going to itemize differently for healing and DPS. Many of the basic stats - Int, Spellpower, Crit - will be the same, but Holy is going to prioritize Spirit more and Hit not at all, whereas your Shadow gear will need lots o' Hit.

So short answer, no. You may have some pieces that overlap, but in general you're looking at separate sets of gear for each spec.

Thank you kindly for the response. I'd rate you up if I had the capability.

To be entirely honest Disc has more overlap with shadow than holy due to less focus on mana regen and more on stats that they both favor. I currently run ToC 25 Main Shadow and Off Disc and use almost the same gear (I have a few pieces to switch out). I can say I heal passably/well in my shadow gear, but would benefit (obviously) from a few more pieces for pure healing gear (so that I didn't have hit on my healing gear). Higher levels of raiding, (when pieces give more hit per, making it so that you need fewer hit pieces) the overlap becomes more apparent.

So if you want to try and focus mostly on just 1 set, Disc/Shadow probably requires fewer pieces than Holy/Shadow.

Though it's good to note that being disc makes you a better tank healer while being Holy makes you a better raid healer. It's not to say that one can't do the other, just that they are specialized differently.

I have found this to be true as well. I have done a reasonable amount of low end raiding (Naxx 10/25, VOA, Sarth 10/25) with Disc spec and geared up as Disc. When I decided to dual spec shadow as well I have been able to assemble a decent amount of gear through rep rewards and crafted gear. I swap out my Disc staff for a rep reward Dagger (Kirin Tor rep) and badge reward offhand, my robe for a crafted ebonweave one, my gloves for a shadow set I picked up on a raid that no one wanted and my helm for a crafted one. With the right gems and enchants on these items I can get hit capped and I am geared enough to run Heroics and lower end raids as shadow. There is also a nice rep reward belt you can get from Wyrmwrest which I used to use before I got my gloves. Although I do run with icewalker on my boots which gives hit and crit as although the hit is essentially useless for disc the crit is nice still.
