My stats unbuffed catform:

Gearscore: 4750
Agility: 1517
Attack Power: 7534
Crit Chance: 52.94%
Hit Chance: +9.97%
Armor Pen: -27.09% armor
Expertise: +8.25%

With only MotW on and the Boss target dummy I'm pulling only 3750 DPS.(This does not include berserk), just the basic cat priority system. Rake, Rip, FF and savage roar are always up. Still only 3750. =/

My spool up rotation on single target is this.

Mangle, SR, Rake, Shred until 5CP and then Rip.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing. Maybe you guys can shed a little light on it for me.

The bold part is what you are doing wrong. Run a 5 minute test and use Berserk as you would on a boss fight.

4.1K DPS is what I end up with using berserk. Which I'm okay with. The problem is gimmic boss fights. if I have to run after a boss or change to different targets it lowers my DPS a great deal.

Welcome to kitty DPS. This is why in Northrend beasts, the ferals in my guild are the only ones who don't have to kill snowbolds. We can do 7k+DPS on the boss or we can do 5k DPS for the encounter if we have to switch targets. You just have to do your best on multiple target/movement fights. Practice makes perfect :) I should practice mine more, but I am too busy leveling my 8th 80 :)

Since I've now been bumped up to OT, I'll have to gather some kitty gear for Twins and such.

It's horrible how difficult kitty DPS is compared to laserchicken. With my healing gear I could pump out a good 4k DPS on boss fights with a fairly simple rotation. I can't break 2k with kitty. It sucks.

I'm sure this will change come the next expansion with some new abilities and tweaks. But I guess we really shouldn't be good at everything. Melee, ranged, tanking and healing? Must be hell trying to balance all that out.

Being a hybrid is not a good enough reason. This isn't even so much a matter of being "good" but of being accessible. Cats have become far more complicated than rogues and still end up below them on the charts in most cases. Paladins and Shamans don't have that problem, and even for Moonkins its apparently alright to produce similar or higher damage while having fewer things to watch out for.

This is a general problem for all Melee DPS, but it is a bigger problem for Druid Melee DPS. The wipe of our combo points on target switchs, combined with Tiger's Fury and Berserk CDs really could be a killer. If you have just loaded up, say 3/4 points on something, but TF and Berserk are CD or not a good time to use them - you might have some major drop of in DPS.

I haven't played Rogue, but do they experience the same problems?

Also - while some of it is boss mechanics, as a former Tank, some of it is tanking. If a tank isn't positioning properly or if they are kiting too fast... A tank can really directly impact the ability of Melee to do their job. I remember Grob. in Naxx - We had one guy who'd panic and speed kite him... We had one guy who'd take it slow. (I was playing my mage - so I had an easy view of this. You'd see DPS having to run and catch the guy....)

In my humble opinion, Savage Roar is the joke here.

It's a damage boost you need to keep up. It's like Horn of Winter of Death Knights, Blessing of Might of Paladins, Battle Shout of Warriors. It's a damage buff that just has to be kept up otherwise your DPS will sink. However, unlike the buffs I just listed, Savage Roar isn't activated by the press of a single button and then it lasts for 3-30 minutes. You need combo points and combo points rely very much on RNG.

The solution, the way I see it, would be to remove Savage Roar and roll it into Cat form. This would remove the need to twist finishers as we'd pretty much do Mangle - Rake - Shred - Rip - Rake - Shred - Ferocious Bite, etc. instead of the /facedesk button-mashing craprotation we got right now.

It would also make my less stressed when I'm soloing. I want to keep Savage Roar up while soloing, but it's pretty damn hard when stuff dies so fast and you might have 30-50 seconds between each mob.

Not really. It's just like a rogue's Slice and Dice, even with longer duration per combo point. It's Rake that's totally out of place. I wish they'd get rid of it and add the DOT to Mangle and/or Infected Wounds instead.
