Low Level Gear: Cloth vs LeatherFollow

#1 Nov 07 2009 at 4:36 PM Rating: Decent
My GF and I recently started playing together. We're leveling them together and have gotten our toons to level 21.

I tank using a pali and she heals using a shaman. My main was a priest and it was always important to have more intellect, spirit, and spell power. I've never leveled a leather wearing toon so i'm not sure what to expect gearwise. From what I've seen thus far we havent come across too many leather items that give bonuses to intellect or spirit yet but I think I remember a majority of the cloth gear giving bonuses that would help casters. I've done some research but havent gotten too far as comparing the two side by side.

Would it be a bad idea for her to use cloth gear that gives her bonuses in spellcasting attributes instead of leather or is it better for her to use the higher armor leather gear? Her toon is linked below.

Faustslady

Not sure if I did the link thing right. Just in case I'll just provide thelink below:

We havent had a chance to do an instance yet but we may be doing one tonight. I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

Eng-game resto shaman are more about intellect, SP and MP5, but you don't have to be nearly so picky while leveling up. Anything that offers intellect and SP is great for early levels.

My thoughts were that in theory she shouldnt need to worry too much about her own armor as long as she had a decent tank with her. Instead of armor if she focused on spell casting attributes that she would have better specs for healing and spell casting in general. She is playing exclusively when I play with her so as long as I'm doing my job she shouldnt be getting hit too often.

So, yes on cloth gear for a resto shammy in early levels? Or no?

Ya, cloth is fine. At early levels, even if she gets smacked by a mob that sneaks up on her before you can get to it, you're not going to notice an enormous difference in the amount of damage she takes if you compare cloth to leather. WoW is very forgiving in the early levels. Having a resto specced healer at your disposal is bordering on overkill, but I don't mean that in a bad way. It's a different story while solo when you tend to take more hits...in that case, cloth vs. leather makes a difference. Doing things as a pair with you making a point of trying to keep her from getting beat up too much means that even when she's able to wear mail gear, if the best healing gear for a particular slot is still cloth, it's still a viable alternative.
