When i look at a weapon, i see regular attack power, and attack power in forms. Im supposed to look at the attack power in forms, correct? Because some items im getting as a 69 druid have a decrease in attack power, but a huge jump in attack power in forms. Its just confusing to me, can anyone shed some light on it?
As I understand it, the attack power in forms is the translation of the standard dps of the item for a normal character wielding the weapon to how much benefit said dps gives us in kitty or bear form (since the listed dps of the weapon doesn't matter for us in kitty or bear form). If a weapon also happens to have +attack power on it as a stat, though, we get that as an additional benefit just like any character would. So you have to compare the total attack power bump not just one versus the other.

I agree it can be confusing at times working these things out , i use an addon called RatingBuster which compares items stats and as far as i know it will show what you get in 'forms' as well , that may help you decide what is better.
Back in the old days of lulz, us druids didn't benefit from weapon DPS at all. All we cared about were stats. Whether the weapon had 100 DPS or 90 DPS, we didn't really care.
Then came along Blizzard and felt that we weren't exactly scaling as well, so they buffed us up by adding feral attack power to every item. Only druids can see it and it's based on the weapon's DPS, as far as I know.
If you see a polearm with +100 attack power and say +1500 feral attack power, it will give you a total of 1600 attack power - 100 in caster + 1500 in bear/cat. However, if a hunter equips it, it will only give him 100 attack power.
