Leveling as a druid 70-80Follow

#1 Nov 02 2009 at 10:50 AM Rating: Default
Well I've had some major problems leveling my druid and am getting very frustrated. I did outlands mostly as resto healing instances until about 65 then went feral until 68. When I got to Northrend I decided to go moonkin thinking it would be easier, but I can't take on more then one mob at a time and I constantly am oom. SO once again I'm switching to feral to hopefully speed up leveling. Anyways what is the basic feral rotation I should be using to level from 69-80? I really just sort of winged it threw the 3 levels in the outlands when I was feral and it was very slow hence the change to moonkin in northrend. I'm very lost and any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

If I remember correctly...

MANGLEMANGLEMANGLEMANGLEFB-->Dead enemy.

Until you get to 75, then

MANGLE-Savage Roar!-MANGLEMANGLEFB--> Dead enemy.

Really, mangle spam and a FB finisher with 3-5 points will kill everything. Open with Pounce so FB has a better chance to crit.

My additional thoughts are more along the lines of: what do you want to do at end game?

I only ask this because it seems you are still a little uncertain about how you want to play your druid. I've seen a lot of people who lacked direction at this point. They tried different specs, playstyles, etc. then ended up with a nearly unplayable character at 80 because they lacked end-game focus in the late 70s. No one wanted to take them into Heriocs because they couldn't pull their weight in DPS and they only had 1/2 a healing set.

My advice? Now is the time to prepare. If you want to do PvE get into those instances, as DPS, tank, Heals, or whatever makes you happy; but try and choose 1 spec to play at 80 at first. Learn and prepare. Work on getting the mats to craft some level 80 epics. Get a good set of blues from the high-level regular instances. If you want to PvP, level some in the BGs and save the honor/marks to get some nice epic PvP gear.

You don't want to be the newly dinged kitty doing 523 DPS in a herioc because you are mostly in quest gear, or getting creamed in PvP with 1 piece of resilience gear.

Of course, if this isn't you my apologies for the miss-read, it's just came to mind when reading your post. :-)

It's strange that you constantly ran out of mana. I'm not sure what you're doing, but I leveled from 70-80, then realized I still had some level 70 waters collecting dust. I honestly don't remember running out of mana. With Intensity and Dreamstate, paired with Innervates every 3 minutes, you should be fine. Was your spec less than ideal? Were you using your innervates?

While leveling there aren't exactly a Feral rotation, except in instances where you want to follow the end-game rotation as much as possible, with the exception of Savage Roar which doesn't become available until level 75.

You've got several options for solo rotations, based largely on your talent selection. Do you have Improved Shred? Do you have Improved Pounce? Do you have Improved Mangle?

As mentioned, Mangle spam will get the job done in most of the cases, but if you're feeling frisky, spice it up with a Rake, Maim, Shred. See if you can stunlock stuff for kicks. Pounce, Mangle, Rake, Maim, Shred, Shred, Ferocious Bite. Yeah, it's all good.

Once you have Rend & Tear, applying either Pounce or Rake to your target will increase your crit chance with Ferocious Bite by 50% or something sick like that. Pounce, Mangle, Shred, Ferocious Bite was usually all it took for me at those levels. You can also mix a little Bear form into it and perhaps make every second pull a pack pull. I run with the Maul glyph and coupled with Berserk, your Bear puts out some pretty impressive damage. Taking on 5+ mobs at a time wasn't difficult from what I remember.

You're playing one of the most versatile classes in the game. Take advantage of that! Spice up your game. Try flying high above something and then switch to Bear/Cat form and Charge something just before you go splat. It takes some practice, but it's really fun. Or maybe my humor is just sick, I don't know.

Oh, using Savage Roar in your soloing rotation is optional, really. It's a very short buff and requires you to spend combo points. I personally never used it outside of instances. Instead of a 24-second damage boost, I preferred the 4k Ferocious Bite crit. Smiley: wink

I personally preferred rake > mangle x2(3) > FB. The mangle x2(3) part is dependent upon whether or not your target has enough health to live through an FB crit with your current number of combo points. After 75, I switched between using SR when I didn't have it up and just using FB every time, and honestly I didn't see much of a difference; keeping SR up pulled ahead when mobs were close together, not using it was better when they were farther apart. Using SR with multiple CPs at the end of a fight in preparation for the next 2-3 fights did seem to be more efficient than using it with 1 CP at the beginning, because if you used that first CP on it, then the number of combo points you'll have to FB at the end would be pitiful.

You can always stealth if you want to, but I tended not to because it simply slowed me down. There were a few times where I was low on health and didn't feel like switching out of forms for whatever reason, and killed a few mobs with a pounce maim combo to regen a decent ~8% health per mob. If you do feel like opening out of stealth, pounce is superior to ravage in all but a few situations. For instance, if you see a humanoid mob sitting down, you can ravage for a guaranteed crit (as far as I know) for a good ~55% of its health or so, which is kinda fun. Not necessarily better, though.

Funny story (not funny ha-ha, more like funny-why-is-he-telling-us-this...?), the only mobs I have ever done that to are some kvaldir storm maidens or something to that effect in storm peaks. Yesterday. Yeah, I was wondering if sitting mobs got the same guaranteed melee crit on them as sitting players, and of the ~5 I did it to, they were all crits. Not exactly amazing testing when I had a good 50% crit chance, but the results seemed pretty conclusive. Seemed.

Well, to be honest, I only use Savage Roar on boss fights (when I'm soloing Sethekk Halls, lol) and in combination with Berserk when I feel like taking out 10+ mobs at once. Gathering a large group of mobs and doing the Mangle > Savage Roar > Berserk > Swipe x ? combo is pretty neat.
